He was created Duke of Swabia by the dowager empress Agnes of Poitou, regent for her infant son Henry IV, and appointed as administrator of the kingdom of Burgundy, in 1057. Duke of Swabia in Kingdom of Germany, German Empire, between 1057 and 1080. He married Mathilde von Franken, Herzogin von Schwaben, daughter of Heinrich III 'der Schwarze', Kaiser der Römisches Reich and Agnès, Kaiserin der Römisches Reich, in 1059; His 1st. He married Adelaide de Savoie, daughter of Odo, comte de Savoie and Markgräfin von Turin, Herzogin von Schwaben Adelheid von Turin, in 1066; His 2nd. Annales Mellicensis 1073: 'Roudolfus dux Alamanniae et Wulfo dux Baioariae, nec non Perhtolfus dux Carinthiorum in unum coniurant adversus regem Heinricum.' He was turned against the king, Henry IV, promising to respect the elective character of the monarchy and to renounce any royal right to the investiture of prelates, he was selected king by an assembly of dissident princes in March 1077. He was deprived of his duchy in Swabia by King Henry IV, on which his power was confined to Saxony, in May 1077.5 He was crowned as King of Germany, in opposition of Henry IV, in May 1077 in Mainz.
