[60572] "The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine}, 20 November 2020: "Lawrence M. 'Buddy' Perkins, 88, passed away November 9, 2020, at a Bangor nursing home. He was born February 21, 1932, in Old Town, the son of Golden and Regina (McGray) Perkins. Bud graduated from Orono High School, class of 1950. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1955 as P.O. 1st Class stationed New London, Norfolk, Newport, USS LIBRA AKA12 and was an Honorary Submariner on the USS TRIGGER II. Bud married the love of his life, Ruth Ann (Morrison) Perkins in 1951. They had four children: three sons, Golden, Rick, Robby; and one daughter, Gail. Bud started his working career at a very young age cutting firewood with axe and bucksaw with his uncle, Artie Perkins in Hudson, and hauling across the ice on Pushaw Lake. He worked with his dad, Buster Perkins, before joining the navy, when on leave and after returning from the navy. Some of the work they did as contractors include the ponds at Mount Hope Cemetery, ground work for the 'Tree streets' in Bangor, Pipeline to Loring AFB, communication line to Loring, installed well supply and pumping station equipment for Penobscot Water Co. on Bennoch Rd. in Orono. In June 1962, he became the local manager of Penobscot Water Co. in Orono. In 1966 he became District Manager for General Waterworks and covered seven water companies, including one in Canada and a sewer operation. In 1969 he transferred from Orono to Toms River, NJ. In 1971 Bud took another transfer to Wilmington, DE. He took the role as manager of Wilmington Suburban Water Corp. and oversaw other gas and water companies as far south as Wilmington, NC. He retired in 1994, and focused full time on finishing his house that he and Ruth started in 1977 in West Grove, PA. A true labor of love she named it 'DAVA'. Ruth passed away October 24, 2009. They enjoyed 58 years of marriage, had four children, seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Bud also had two siblings, Leslie Libby and Jeanette Woodard."
