[3696] Arles is the name of a "kingdom" formed 933-35 uniting Provence and Burgundy (including part of modern Switzerland). It appears that Ratbold II had a son, Rudolph III, who bequeathed the kingdom to Emperor Conrad II in 1032. It is unclear who the father of Boso, Count of Provence, is. {Ratbold II is presumed to be the father of Gerberga, wife of Fulk II, Count of Anjou - see W.H.Turton, "The Plantagenet Ancestry: (Baltimore: Gen. Pub. Co., 1968, p.6), where the death year for Ratbold I is given as 928.}

Ayershire, Scotland, son of a Presbyterian minister] and wife Mary Currens) - John Nellis and about 12 others purchased a ship and came to America. The name "John Nellis" is on a grave marker in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Doylestown, Wayne Co., OH. Mary's Social Security death record states she was b. 6 Jan 1890. The 1900 federal census lists her in Peter Conlon's family in Western Star, Wadsworth Twp., Medina Co., OH.

"Ira Mishler, deputy sheriff of Nobles county, is a native of Iowa, having been born in Jackson county May 4, 1855. His parents, Christian and Adalina (Brillhart) Mishler, were very early settlers of that part of Iowa, making the trip there by stage when there were only twelve miles of railroad west of Chicago. The father was a native of Ohio and died in Blackhawk county, Iowa, in 1879, at the age of 51 years. The mother was also a native of Ohio, but moved to Illinois when a girl and resided there until her marriage. Ira is the next oldest of a family of seven children, of whom the others are Cyrus, Fannie (Snyder), Hattie, Emma (Smith), Matie and Annie.
"In Jackson county, Iowa, Ira lived until he was ten years of age. Then he moved with the family to Waterloo, Blackhawk county, where he lived with his father on the farm until the latter's death in 1879. Ira and his twin brother, Cyrus, then took the management of the farm, which they conducted until 1889. That year he moved to Worthington and for ten years owned and managed the Western House livery barn. After the election of Sheriff Fauskee in 1902, Mr. Mishler was appointed deputy sheriff and has since held the office.
"Mr. Mishler was married in Waterloo, Iowa, February 18, 1888, to Miss Libbie Palmer, a native of Butler county, Iowa, and a daughter of John and Louisa (Jefferies) Palmer. Mr. and Mrs. Mishler are the parents of two children: Gertrude, born May 6, 1891; Marjorie, born June 27, 1896.
"For the last five years Mr. Mishler has held the office of village assessor. He is a member of the Baptist church and of the K. P. and M. VV. A. lodges of Worthington."

As it came to a riot against the Danish rule, Knud made a raid to Slawien and replaced Wartislaw with Prince Jaromar von Rügen, whose power she tried to curb. After her son came of age she continued to be active, granting lands to convents etc. She might have taken over as Guardian after her daughter-in-law, Miroslawa died in 1233 leaving her son, Barnim I. (1219-20-78), who was still a minor. Also known as Anastasia, she was daughter of Mieszko III Stary Duke of Wielkopolska and Princess Eudoksja of Russia After 1198 she was still politically active, and lived (before 1164-after 1240). "

My family descends from Duncan Stewart who was born in "Kilmadock, Perth" abt 1623. He was transported to Ipswich, Massachusetts by 1649. He was enslaved and worked as a shipwright (?). He married Ann Winchurst (abt 1633 to 1729). They had 12 children including my forebear James Stewart (1664-1750). The Stewart family relocated in the Fox Island area of Maine by the late 18th century. I know little of Duncan Stewart or his family beyond his approximate birth date and birth place. Family tradition holds that he was banished as a prisoner in the Cromwell Wars. I would like to hear from anyone who may be researching this particular family. Sincerely, Inez Reed

Hi all - I would like to add as an after thought, family oral traditions hold that Duncan Stewart (abt 1623-1717) was the son of Duncan Stewart. The younger Duncan's mother was cited as either Helen Margaret Campbell or simply "Mrs. Stewart". I've seen odd references to a Stiubhart Stewart (Stuart Stewart?) as the father but that's one reference few of my loosely related kinsmen accept. Although archival evidence suggests that he worked as a shipwright during his period of servitude, Duncan was later listed as a planter. I have seen secondary references to a younger brother, Alexander. Alexander was born in Scotland around 1630 and died in Massachussetts around 1730. Best wishes, Inez.

He later became a proprietor in Newbury, and died in Rowley in 1717 at a greatly advanced age, either ~94 or ~100 years old, depending on which DOB you subscribe to. Duncan married Anne Winchurst, both then of Ipswich, early in 1654. It says they were both in the service of George Hadley. Duncan Stewart was a shipwright. He was captured by Cromwell's men at battle of Dunbar 1650 and shipped to the new world as an indentured servant." Re: Ann - "Have also seen her last name as Winchester. Ann Winchurch was indentured to John Cogswell. She and Duncan Stuart were whipped for fornication by order of the church. This was prior to their marriage."

Extracts from "Essex Institute Historical Collections" that in Vol. XIV, the records of deaths of First Church, Rowley had John Stewart, aged 90 years and 8 or 9 months, which would give him a birth date of February or March 1666, and make his birth in Newbury, three years earlier than Henry's. This verbatim record is also from the same source: "1717. Dunkin Stewart, about (it's thot) an 100 years old, Aug 30"; and "1729. Old Widow Stewart, relict of Duncan, July 9."
Gage's "History of Rowley" "Shipbuilding was first carried on in Rowley at Rowley landing by Duncan Stewart and sons, who came from Newbury as early as 1680, and perhaps earlier. Previous to his death he sold his shipyard to Edward Saunders."
"Genealogical and Family History of the State of Maine" "...this branch of the Stewards, or Stewarts, trace to Duncan Steward, of Ipswich, Massachusetts, who settled there in 1658. He joined the church in Rowley, September 26, 1723; his wife Anne joined September 17, 1721. Both Duncan and Anne Steward lived to be nearly one hundred years old; they made their home in Newbury, Massachusetts, where Duncan was a shipbuilder; in 1680 they were living in Rowley. ... Some of the branches of the family spell their name Stewart, others Stuart, but it is positively known that Duncan spelled his Steward."
Salem Registry of Deeds lists six deeds for Duncan Steward, one deed Dunckin Steward and one deed Duncan Stewart.

"The non-English colonists from the British Isles were almost entirely Scots. ... Yet the great majority were prisoners who were taken captive by the armies of Oliver Cromwell and brought to America in 1651 or 1652. Here they were sold as indentured servants for a period of several years or less. Many of the "Scotch prisoners" were deported to Boston where they were acquired by planters from Maine to the Plymouth colony."
[40501] Find A Grave Memorial 53646502 offers: "Heinrich (Henry) Voss was born May 7, 1855 in Wallsbull, Schleswig, Germany to Hans Vohs and Anna Catherina Nickelson. He married Antoinette (Minnie) Walters who was born February 25, 1860 in Germany. After coming to the United States they settled in Avoca, Iowa. Children born to Henry and Minnie were Emma Bertha, born June 2, 1879; Martha Ann born September 5, 1881; Antoinette Minnie born May 3, 1883; Alma born December 6, 1884; Hertha born November 10, 1886, Henry (Heinie) William June 21, 1888 and Margaret (birthdate unknown). In the early 1900s some of the Voss family homesteaded in Canada near the present town of Marsden. Some of them remained in Canada all their lives. Henry passed away Nov. 8, 1887 in Avoca, Iowa at the age of 32; and Minnie later married Henry Study. She passed away August 3, 1908. Both are buried in the Avoca, Iowa cemetery. Henry's information was obtained from family members, German records, and his death certificate. It is submitted by his great-granddaughter, Betty Alberts."
