[28180] Ancestral File states Mary is daughter of James S. Turner (b. by 1819, of Orland, ME) and Elizabeth Carr (b. by 1823). In the Hilltop Cemetery, Orland, Hancock Co., ME is Edmund C. (drowned at 16 months 18 May 1840), son of James S. and Elizabeth S. Turner - presumably Mary's brother. Adjacent is a Carr family grave (Angeline, daughter of Hugh H. and Mary; d. at 9 months 24 Oct 1831 - perhaps Elizabeth Carr's sister). Ancestry.com offers: "Turner Name Meaning - English and Scottish: occupational name for a maker of objects of wood, metal, or bone by turning on a lathe, from Anglo-Norman French torner (Old French tornier, Latin tornarius, a derivative of tornus 'lathe'). The surname may also derive from any of various other senses of Middle English turn, for example a turnspit, a translator or interpreter, or a tumbler. English: nickname for a fast runner, from Middle English turnen 'to turn' + 'hare'. English: occupational name for an official in charge of a tournament, Old French tornei (in origin akin to 1)"
