[55266] "Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 11 December 2023: "Verona Island - Patricia 'Patty' Bridges passed away peacefully in her home on November 25, 2023, with family by her side. She was born on Verona Island on April 11, 1932, to George Francis and Viola (Bridges) Anderson. She grew up on Verona, graduating from Bucksport High School, Class of '49. She is survived by three daughters, Vicki Bakeman (Leon), Kimberly Bridges (Stephen Crosson) and Andrea Moran (Richard). Additionally, she leaves behind her grandchildren, Tracey, Kaci, Patrick, Megan, Robbie, Samie and Mya; and great-grandchildren, Ashley, Alex, Eloise, Abigail, Luca, Nolan, and Mack. She also leaves many special nieces and nephews. In 1954 she married the love of her life, Kenneth Bridges, from Penobscot. After a few years together they built their home on Verona, where they would raise three daughters. Staying in her home until her last days was one of her wishes, and it gives great peace to her family that they were able to grant that wish. She dedicated her life to fulfilling the roles of homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt. Both Patty and Ken loved to have huge vegetable gardens, picking their bounty on warm summer days. That was followed by canning and preserving them, filling their cellar shelves with vegetables to eat during the upcoming cold Maine winter. Being a mother meant the world to Patty, especially after losing her own mom at a tender young age. She always made sure her daughters had everything they needed and then some. There were new clothes in September as the school year began. Birthdays were made into special celebrations; there were always homemade decorated cakes, special gifts, and included numerous cousins and friends. Easter brought beautiful puffy dresses, patent leather shoes, and big baskets teeming with candy. Christmas was magical. There were mysterious notes from Santa, new dolls, clothes, and games under the tree, and overstuffed Christmas stockings. She never failed to exceed everyone's wishes. She made sure her family sat down to a homemade supper every evening and that her daughters were kissed and tucked in at bedtime. She was there for her family always, with a twinkle in her eye, a quick smile, listening and helping in any way she could. Her ability to remember birthdays of her extended family and friends was amazing. Even in her final years, she would manage to send cards and gifts to loved ones. She enjoyed games and never turned down an opportunity to play Scrabble or Cribbage. She rarely missed Wheel of Fortune or Jeopardy. She was quick to laugh and had an incredible sense of humor and managed to still joke with her girls and granddaughter during her final days. A special thank you to the many caregivers and nurses who helped her over the years: Ruth, Muriel, Lauren, Gail, Lou, Lindsay, and her special Lisa, who had been with her through it all. Her family is grateful for all of the visitors in her last years. She particularly enjoyed the frequent visits by Larry and Max and looked forward to them. Patty requested a graveside service only, which will be held on June 8, 2024, at 2 p.m. at Bayview Cemetery in Penobscot, ME."
