Ralph probably was a Breton or of mixed English & Breton parentage, born by 1011; an officer of English rulers ("dapifer" of Edward the Confessor); had many lands; Earl of Norfolk & Suffolk or East Angles; probably Baron of Gael in Brittany from which his son took his name (de Gael or de Guader). He was alive 2/68 but dead by 4/70.

He was born Aug. 11, 1904, at Little Deer Isle, the son of Peter and Susan (Cole) Haskell. He was a yachtsman for many years, and later became a lobster fisherman. Haskell was a member of the North Deer Isle RLDS Church. Surviving are his widow, Essie (Billings) Haskell of here; three sons, Milton, Franklin and Douglas, all of Deer Isle; two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Shirley) Carvell of Little Deer Isle and Mrs. Theodore (Geraldine) Turner of Swans Island; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild."

[16618] "Historical Memoranda Concerning Persons and Places in Old Dover, NH," by Quint, relates that he served in the Indian Wars of 1707 and was Major of the NH troops in the attack on Port Royal in 1707, and was their Colonel in the reduction of that place in 1710. He was Colonel of the Rangers in the winter of 1710 and latger became a Judge. Eva Gardner's summary of his life is in genealogical records at the New Castle, NH Town Clerk's office in 1964.
