He was ill for about five weeks, his death being caused by intercostial neuralgia of the heart and jaundice. He was a consistent member of the Reformed Church, a charter member of W. C. No. 487, P. O. S. of A., of this place, a member of the I. O.O. F., No. 172, of Landishurg, and director in the First National Bank of New Bloomfield, having been re-elected a few days before his death. He was the oldest son of Solomon and Mary Anna (Kiner) Briner and is survived by his wife and two children, Florence Ebert Briner and G. Edward Briner; also two grandchildren, Sara and Ralph Briner; also one sister, Miss Margaret Briner, of Loysville, and two brothers, Newton J., of Greenpark, and Edward G., of Loysville. On June 2nd, 1887, he was united in marriage to Annie Catherine Bitter. He was born October 22nd, 1861, therefore being aged 63 years, 2 months and 22 days. He was a hard-working man up until his sickness, when he suffered intense pain at the heart, which he bore without a murmur. He had lived on his farm for 30 years. He had a kind and gentle disposition, which won him many friends who will sadly miss him."

[62049] Winona's obituary: "Winona 'Nonie' Varnum, June 2, 1929 - April 13, 2026 - Verona Island, Maine - Nonie Varnum, passed away peacefully at the age of 96 at her home - which is right where she wanted to be. Born and raised on Verona Island, Nonie was the only child of Jack and Hildred McIntyre. She grew up on the point at the Meade farm and attended the one-room schoolhouse on the island. Nonie was predeceased by her husband, Richard 'Dick' Varnum, of Penobscot. Together they built a life on Verona Island, raising their family in the home on West Side Drive that she cherished throughout her life. Nonie was the proud mother of five sons, with 23 years between her oldest and youngest. She found great joy in time spent with her family and friends, whether camping, playing cards, or attending bluegrass festivals with Dick and their many lifelong companions. She was known for her remarkable handiwork, creating crocheted and knitted gifts that will be treasured for generations. Her crochet hook was rarely out of reach, and it was often said she could crochet even in her sleep. Nonie is survived by her sons, Dennis Varnum and his wife Susan, Timothy Varnum, Sr. and his wife Lisa, and David Varnum and his wife Kristin; and was predeceased by her sons, Terry McIntyre and Richard Varnum. She is also survived by Terry's former wife, Carol, and by Richard's wife, Barbara."

In 2007 http://fmg.ac/Projects/MedLands/SICILY.htm offers: "Manfred von Hohenstaufen, son of Emperor Friedrich II King of Germany [Federigo I King of Sicily] & his mistress Bianca Lancia (Venosa 1232-killed in battle Benevento 26 Feb 1266). The 'Thomas Tusci Gesta Imperatorum et Pontificum' names '[illegitimus filius Frederici] Manfredus' as son of 'sorore marchionis Lancee', specifying that he and his sister were legitimated as a result of their father's declaration at the deathbed of their mother. He was bequeathed the kingdom of Sicily and 10,000 uncias under his father's testament[393]. Matthew of Paris calls him 'Memfredum filium Fretherici naturalem sed legitimatum'. At the time of his first marriage, his father constituted him Lord of territory from Pavia to Genoa. He succeeded as Principe di Tarento in 1250 on the death of his father. After Pope Innocent IV named Edward of England, son of Henry III King of England, as King of Sicily, Manfred forced the Papacy to recognise Konradin's rights and his own appointment as regent in Sicily. He deposed his nephew in 1258, and was crowned Manfredo King of Sicily 10 Aug 1258 at Palermo, although this was not recognised by the Papacy. Pope Urban IV offered the kingdom of Sicily to Charles de France Comte d'Anjou who began preparations to invade and claim his rights. He defeated and killed King Manfred at Benevento.
" - m firstly (proxy Mar 1247, contract 21 Apr 1247, [Dec 1248/Jan 1249]) as her second husband, Beatrix de Savoie, widow of Manfredo III Marchese di Saluzzo, daughter of Amedee IV Comte de Savoie & his first wife Marguerite de Bourgogne ([1223]-10 May before 1259). The proxy of marriage between 'Manfredo Lanza di Lui [Imperator Federico secundo] figlio' and 'la Contessa di Saluzzo figlia del Conte Amedeo di Savoia' is dated Mar 1247. The contract of marriage between 'Manfredo Lanza figlio dell'Imperatore Federico' and 'la Contessa Beatrice di Saluzzo figlia del Conte Amedeo di Savoia' is dated 21 Apr 1247. This marriage was arranged in recognition of the alliance between her father and Emperor Friedrich II. She is mentioned in the 19 Sep 1252 will of her father as his daughter 'Béatrice wife of Marchese Manfredo di Saluzzo', despite her first husband's death and her second marriage before that date.
" - m secondly (betrothed before Feb 1258, Trani 2 Jun 1259) Helena Dukaina Angelina, daughter of Mikhael II Komnenos Dukas Angelos Lord of Epirus & his wife Theodora Dukaina Petraliphaina Basilissa ([1242]-in prison Nocera before 18 Jul 1271). Her marriage was arranged as part of her father's peace treaty with Manfred King of Sicily in 1258, her dowry of Corfu, Durazzo, Valona and Berat being the territories which King Manfred had already conquered. After her husband's defeat, she fled with her children to Trani planning to travel to Greece, but was captured. She was imprisoned in the castle of Nocera in Campania and deprived of her children, although she was permitted to have servants and her own furniture and personal items. She died in prison."
