Somerset, Knight and standard-bearer to King Henry VIII, and King Edward VI, and to Queen Elizabeth. Of this gentleman it is mentioned, that, in the 1st year of Queen Mary, riding casually in London, he met with Sir Thomas Wyat at Temple Bar, and persuading him to yield himself to the queen, Sir Thomas took his advise, and mounting behind Sir Maurice , rode to the court. He married (1) Catherine, daughter of William Blount Baron Mountjoy, and was ancestor of the Berkeleys of Bruton, and of Pylle, of Berkeley Portman Lord Portman, and the Berkeleys, Viscount Fitz-Harding, and by her had the following children: 1. Henry Berkeley, Knight, of Bruton, who married Margaret Lygon, daughter of William Lygon, Esq., of Madresfield, co. Worcester, and was succeeded by his eldest son, Maurice Berkeley, who received the honor of knighthood from the Earl of Essex, while serving under that nobleman in the expedition to Calais, in 1596. 2. Edward Berkeley 3. Gertrude Berkeley, married Edward Horne, Esq. 4. Elizabeth Berkeley, married James Percival, Esq., of Weston, Gordano, co. Somerset. 5. Anne Berkeley, married Nicholas Poynings, Esq., of Adderley. 6. Francis, died unmarried. (Maurice married (2) Elizabeth Sandes, daughter of Anthony Sandes, Esq., and by her was ancestor of the Berkeleys of Boycot, co. Kent. From his second marriage there were two sons and a daughter.)" Find A Grave Memorial 73179545 reports: "He was Standard Bearer to Henry VIII, Edward VI and Queen Elizabeth. He was the second son of Sir Richard Berkeley of Stoke Gifford, descendant of Maurice III, Lord Berkeley and his wife Eve Zouche, and of his first wife Katherine Blount, daughter of William Lord Mountjoy, ob. 25, Feb. 1559, of their sons; Henry, Edward and Francis - all Knights. Also of his second wife Elizabeth Sands, ob. 1585."

[7794] Annie m. Feb. 9, 1882 Eugene G. Showvaker (1875-1928, son of Jacob R. Showvaker and Anna Elizabeth Bradfield). Eugene farmed and then entered the grocery store business at New Germantown and later in Harrisburg, "The Perry County Times, 3 December 1942," p. 12: "Mrs. Annie J. Showvakcr, widow of Eugene G. Showvaker, former residents of Perry county, died at the home of her nephew and niece, Mr. and Mrs. Lyman Kistler, in Harrisburg, on Saturday, November 28, 1942. She was 82 years old. Mrs. Showvaker was a daughter of Jacob and Sarah (Snyder) Rickard, residents of Loysville for many years. She and Mr. Showvaker were married February 9, 1882. For several years they conducted a grocery store in New Gerniantown, but in 1885 they went to farming in Pleasant Valley, near Mannsville, and later moved to Harrisburg, where they conducted a grocery store. Mr. Showvaker died some years ago. Mrs. Showvaker is survived by one brother, James C. Rickard, Esq., of Blain, and one sister, Mrs. Frank P. Lightner, of Loysville. Mr. Harry C. Showvaker, of Bloomfield, is a brother-in-law of the deceased. Mrs. Showvaker was a good woman of lovely character and her death is mourned by all who knew her. Funeral services were held in Harrisburg Tuesday and burial was made beside her husband's grave in the New Bloomfield cemetery."
