He was born in West Penobscot Oct. 14, 1900, the son of Frank C. and Mary (Gibbs) Farnham. He was a graduate of East Maine Conference Seminary of Bucksport and the University of Maine, Class of 1924. He was a member of Orland United Methodist Church, Rising Sun Lodge, where he served 56 years as secretery, York Rite Masonic Body, Anah Temple Shrine, Hancock County Shrine Club, and Riverside Chapter OES. He was predeceased by his wife Jennie (Deans) Farnham in 1983. He is survived by two sons, John W. Farnham of Orland, Arthur 'Leslie' Farnham of Tacoma, Wash.; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren."

[1018] Thomas Makepeace emigrated from Daventry, Northamptonshire, England to Boston, MA, see "Topographical Dictionary of 2885 English Emigrants to New England," by Charles Edward Banks (Baltimore: Southern Book Co., 1957). He appeared in MA in 1637; died in Boston - cf. Makepeace Family Genealogy. He lived at Dorchester and at Boston, MA where he made his will 30 Jun 1666. He was a member of the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company, serving in 1638. He married 23 July 1641 at Dorchester, MA Elizabeth Hawkredd (b. 8 Dec 1605, Boston, England)(her 2nd husband) per Grace Goodall on Prodigy, 12/91; she ref. to the Gustin Genealogy, pp. 78ff. In 1654 Thomas was in the Naragansett Expedition against the Native Americans for which he received pay from the treasury of the MA Bay Colony. "Genealogy of Williams Families," John Oliver Williams (Brookline, MA, 1938) asserts that he descends from Abel Makepeace, Esq. and his wife (a daughter of Laurence Washington, Esq. of Grays Inn and Mayor of Northampton in 1532 or 1543), and that the genealogy connects with Gov. Hinckley of Barnstable, MA, Gov. of the Plymouth Colony (q.v.). Also see "The Genealogy of the Makepeace Families of the United States from 1637-1857," William Makepeace (Boston, 1858). This email was received 1/1/99: "Do you know of a Thomas Makepeace that left 3 pounds to his kinswoman Mary, wife of John Pearce of Rhode Island? Will dated Boston, June 30 1666.
