He was born near Loysville and was the son of Solomon and Annie Kiner Briner. He farmed the old homestead farm until 1916, when he moved to Loysville. He was a member of the Modern Woodsmen of America, Newport; the I. O. O. F., of Landisburg, and the Evangelical and Reformed Church and Sunday School, Loysville. He was a Director of the Loysville Bank and has been one since its organization. His wife, the former Miss Hannah G. Rice, died in 1941. Surviving him are three daughters and three sons: Mrs. Harriet M. Martin, Mrs. Hope Elder, of Harrisburg, and Mrs. Sarah Shreffler, of Blain ; R. Dewey Briner, of Mechanicsburg, R. D. 4; C. Garber Briner and E. Floyd Briner, of Loysville; thirteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren."

The discussion begins with this paragraph: "Scholars have long debated whence came the people and name Graham. Some say the Grahams are descendants of the Graeme who commanded the armies of Fergus II in 404 AD. Others are equally convinced that they are of Norman descent, while yet others claim a Flemish or even Danish descent. Even the early officers of Clan Graham Society could not agree, with first President Harry L. Graham holding to a Norman connection although first Society Genealogist J. Kenneth Graham was in the Pictish Scot (Graeme) camp."

[7269] William was the last surviving pensioner of the War for Independence in New England, and next to last in the nation. He helped carry the first log that was used in building the southeast bastion of Fort George in 1779. Penobscot V.R. gives his death date as 3 May 1866 and lists the children shown here. "A Census of Pensioners for Revolutionary War Services...," (Washington: Blair and Rives, 1841 - published by Act of Congress) lists William, age 75 in 1840, as residing in Penobscot, ME. William m. (2) widow Mary Saunders Ames (who d. 1 Feb 1866 at Penobscot). He was a captain and master mariner. He married his first wife in 1586. In 1586 he married his second wife in Wilmington, Kent. He died having lived for more than 100 years. He died on February 4, 1666, in Bermondsey, Surrey, at the age of 101."

He lived in Bar Harbor, Hancock, Maine, United States for about 30 years. He died on 21 April 1887, at the age of 92, and was buried in Newman Grave, Bar Harbor, Hancock, Maine, United States."
