History of the Cobb Family by Phillip L. Cobb, 1907
[582] See "Medieval English Ancestors of Certain Americans," Carl Boyer III (Santa Clarita, CA, 2001), p. 160. Ralph probably was a Breton or of mixed English & Breton parentage, born by 1011; an officer of English rulers ("dapifer" of Edward the Confessor); had many lands; Earl of Norfolk & Suffolk or East Angles; probably Baron of Gael in Brittany from which his son took his name (de Gael or de Guader). He was alive 2/68 but dead by 4/70.
[29207] "Ancestors of American Presidents, 2009 Edition,' Gary Boyd Roberts (Boston: NEHGS, 2009), p. 39, reports Thomas is son of Nathaniel Emerson (b. ca. 1631, d. 26 Nov 1719 in Ipswich, MA) and Sarah _____ (d. 3 Feb 1688 in Ipswich). "The Ipswich Emersons," Benjamin Kendall Emerson (Boston: David Clapp & Son, 1890), p. 67: "Thomas Emerson, son of Nathaniel and Sarah Emerson, was born at Ipswich, Mass., and died at Ipswich, 14 April 1738. He married 20 November 1685, Philippa Perkins, a daughter of Jacob and Sarah (Wainwright) Perkins. She was born at Ipswich, 28 November 1670, and died 26 April 1738. They resided at Ipswich, near 'Labour-in-vain.' Mr. Emerson was a farmer. Essex (Mass.) Probate, xxvii: 228. Will of Thomas Emerson Sr. of Chebacco dated 14 March 1738, probated 4 January 1747. Children named: Sarah Hunt, Elizabeth Smith, Mary wife of Stephen Story, Mehitable Burnam, and son Thomas to be executor, and to him was given the remaining estate, excepting the household goods."

[1428] John S. Wurts, "Magna Charta, Part VIII", p. 2550, states Richard died in 1430 and his father Robert died in 1446: also states Richard m. Alianore, dau. of Sir John Berkeley of Beverstone [q.v.]; gives ancestry. Cf. in 2003 http://www.mathematical.com/poyningsrichard1410.htm which states Richard d. 10 June 1429 in Orleans, France. Also cf. http://www.medievalgenealogy.org.uk/cp/poynings.shtml.
[12009] Data for John and wife Elizabeth is not verified - from http://www.ronulrich.com/rfuged/fam10236.htm in 2008 (which gives their children). The 1870 federal census 9 August 1870 in Knox Twp., Holmes Co., OH. lists John (a farmer) and his family. Ancestry.com offers: "Watts Name Meaning - English: patronymic from Watt. This surname is also well established in South Wales."
