[33057] John is said to be son of Edward Moore and Mary Nelles. Ancestry.com offers: "Moore Name Meaning - English: from Middle English more 'moor', 'marsh', 'fen', 'area of uncultivated land' (Old English mor), hence a topographic name for someone who lived in such a place or a habitational name from any of the various places named with this word, as for example Moore in Cheshire or More in Shropshire. English: from Old French more 'Moor' (Latin maurus). The Latin term denoted a native of northwestern Africa, but in medieval England the word came to be used informally as a nickname for any swarthy or dark-skinned person. English: from a personal name (Latin Maurus 'Moor'). This name was borne by various early Christian saints. The personal name was introduced to England by the Normans, but it was never as popular in England as it was on the Continent. Irish: Anglicized form of Gaelic Ó Mórdha 'descendant of Mórdha', a byname meaning 'great', 'proud', or 'stately'. Scottish: see Muir. Welsh: from Welsh mawr 'big', applied as a nickname or distinguishing epithet."

[17309] Beverly r. in her brother Edward's household in Penobscot, Hancock Co., ME at the time of the 1940 census. She graduated in nursing from the Cambridge, MA city hospital in 1944 and was enrolled in the Cadet Nursing Corps 24 July 1944 in Cambridge. "Bangor Daily News, 16 July 2020": "Orland - It is with heavy hearts that Beverly Robshaw passed on July 14, 2020, at the Maine Veteran's Home in Bangor. She was born September 21, 1924, in Boston, Massachusetts, to Theodore and Cecil Perkins. Graduating from Clark High School in Penobscot, she continued her education at Cambridge Mt. Auburn School of Nursing, graduating in 1947. She began her nursing career at Castine Hospital, then was employed for several years as the nurse in the Medical Department at the Paper Mill in Bucksport, retiring in 1983. She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Ralph Robshaw; three brothers and three sisters. She is survived by three daughters, Jean Goss and Jerry, Sally Hauber, and Judy Findlay and Glenn. Mamie leaves behind many special memories with her 7 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, as well as several special nieces and nephews. Family was her top priority and she enjoyed so many special events at her home on Toddy Pond. She loved having her morning coffee and crossword puzzle sitting on her farmer's porch overlooking the family camp and the calm waters. The more family at camp the better with the golf cart making several trips a day from the house. She made many cherished crocheted or knitted afghans for family as well as many of her handcrafted quilts. Her oil paintings are hung in our homes with pride and joy. She was a member of the Elm Street Congregational Church in Bucksport, serving on several committees, including the annual church fair. Though she was unable to attend services over the past several years, she maintained a connection with the ministry and its members. The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to the staff at Beacon Hospice, as well as all the staff at the Maine Veteran's Home for providing her with a loving 'home' for the past 6 months. Her caregivers loved her as much as we all did, but she had a special bond and love for Mishelle Keene who was with her for almost a year with Beacon Hospice and then at the Veteran's Home."
