[48331] "Bangor Daily News, 28 January 2021": "James Edward Grindle, 91, passed away peacefully on Jan. 13, 2021. He got to join his wife, Josephine Grindle, who predeceased him 3 years ago, with the Lord. A lifelong resident of Back Ridge in Penobscot, James was an avid local historian and was proud author of the book, The Back Ridge and Beyond, about Orland/Penobscot area while he was growing up. He worked as a carpenter for number of years and then worked at Maine Maritime before retiring to his elaborate flower and vegetable gardens, wood carving and bird watching. He is survived by his sisters, Alberta Whitney and Jane Tannehill and Franklin Grindle, all of Orland; stepsons, Kurtis Marsh and spouse, Carissa Marsh, of Hampden, Maine, Kendall Marsh and spouse, Rhonda, and Kevin Marsh of NH; grandchildren, Shawn Marsh and Wyatt Marsh of NH, and Ryan Marsh and Morgan March of Hampden, to whom he will ever be known as Papa, along with many nieces, cousins, and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Aurilla (Robertson) Grindle; brother, Robert (Bob) Grindle; sisters-in-law, Jeanette Grindle and Norma Grindle; and brothers-in-law, Edward Tannehill and Phil Whitney. Special note to Astbury family who were best neighbors, friends and often caretakers James could ask for over many decades. Also, thanks to both Jed Prouty Assisted Living and Westgate Manor, which allow Jim to be most comfortable in his last few years."
