[10506] Capt. John m. Phoebe ("Phebe") Perkins & had ten children. He built the John Perkins house overlooking the Castine harbor [now relocated beside the Wilson Museum] and was a prosperous merchant - the Wilson Museum Bulletin, Vol. 3, No. 29 (Spring, 1994) is dedicated to this family, especially their last child, Polly (b. 15 November 1787 at Castine, ME). Also see a major article, "A Man for Castine," by Miriam Anne and Russell Bourne, in Yankee magazine, October, 1969. His children are listed in Wheeler's "History of Castine... [1922], p. 174. John was a Loyalist and joined in the petition to Nova Scotia requesting the British to take possession of the Penobscot area - but after the occupation he moved his family back onto the peninsula. His eldest daughter, Lydia, married a British officer in 1782. See typescript pamphlet "The Perkins Family in Castine, Brooksville and Penobscot, ME," Grace Lymburner (1948) in the Boston (MA) Public Library.
