He married Eleanor Peters in 1857. They had seven children in 18 years. He died in 1918 in Shaftsbury, Vermont, at the age of 77, and was buried in South Shaftsbury, Vermont. This may be the same person or a brother: "The Bennington Evening Banner [Bennington, Vermont], 27 September 1918," p. 1: "James Henry Beagle, aged 77 years, died at his home in South Shaftsbury Wednesday afternoon. He had been in poor health for :ome time but confined to tho bed for only a few days. Mr. Beagle spent the greater share of his life in South Shaftsbury and was one of the town's highly respected citizens. Surviving beside the widow are one daughter, Mrs. M. C. Whitcomb of Springfield, and three sons, Fred of North Bennington. James of Springfield, John of South Shaftsbury. The funeral will be held from his late home on Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. Cady will officiate. Interment will be in the South Shaftsbuiy cemetery."

Steinmetz, died yesterday of dropsy, aged 56 years. She was taken sick on her birthday, Sept. 8, and has since been confined to bed at her boarding house, No. 116 North Sixth Street, the home of Mrs. Mary E. Voorhees. Her husband died eight years ago. For the past two years she has resided in Allentown. Mrs. Steinmetz was a daughter of the late Philip Breiner and was born on what is now the David Keck farm in North Whitehall Township. She is survived by an only son, W. E. Steinmetz of this city, and five grandchildren. The funeral will be held at noon from her late home, with services and burial at Miller's Church."
