[28948] Daniel Buffington purchased a sixty-acre farm during the 1860s and built a new dwelling on the land. He also purchased a saw and grist mill. In 1882 he bought more acreage of almost 200 acres. - "Comprehensive History of Town of Gratz Pennsylvania," 1997, p. 52. "The Standard [Lykens, PA], 14 August 1903," p. 1: "Daniel Buffington of Gratz, died at his home Tuesday after an illness of several months with a complication of diseases, aged 67 years. His entire life was spent in Lykens township, and was one of its most highly respected citizens. He is survived by a wife and several children and among the children is Harry F. Bufflngton, one of the clerks in the County Commissioner's office. The funeral took place at 10 a. m. yesterday, and was largely attended. Rev. Kruder was the officiating clergymen, and delivered a touching sermon in the Lutheran and Reformed church, after which interment was made in the adjoining cemetery."

She was a homemaker. Born in Mabscott, W.Va, she moved to Winter Haven from Lakeland in 1998. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ocala. She was a member of the Ocala Art Guild. Survivors: sons, Adrian H. Whitcomb Jr., Newport News, Va, John D. Whitcomb, College Station, Texas; daughters, Elizabeth Ellis, Lakeland, Edna Harrison, Newport News, Susan Harlin, Fort Worth, Texas; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren." Edith is daughter of Euell Emmitt Dillon (1884-1961) & Edna Esther Teel (1892-1970).
