[8383] "Telegraph-Forum [Bucyrus, Ohio], 26 July 2005," p. 2 "Royal Griffin, 74, of 346 Township Highway 43, Nevada, died at 2:25 a.m. Monday at home. He was born in Carey, the son of Royal and Ida Marie (Traxler) Griffin Sr., who preceded him in death. He was married Feb. 24. 1951, to Phyllis (Stover), who survives. Also surviving are children Daniel E. Griffin of Sycamore, Pamela S. Tiffin of Lawrence, Kan., Mark and Catherine Griffin of Romulus, Mich., and Carl (Rebecca) Lohr Sr. of Sycamore; nine grandchildren; a brother, Eugene Griffin of rural Upper Sandusky; and two sisters, Mrs. Patricia Coffman of rural Upper Sandusky and Mrs. Joanne Bailey of Greenville. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia Smith and Jane Harman. A 1948 graduate of Sycamore High School, Mr. Griffin was a retired drivers license examiner for the Ohio State Highway Patrol in Bucyrus. He also drove as a 7-up distributor, Upper Sandusky, and Frito-Lay distributor, Bucyrus. He was a member of the Protestant faith and for 25 years did western square dancing with the Bucyrus Buckaroos. He loved to go camping, bird watching and gardening and built birdhouses."

[581] "...an intimate friend of William the Conqueror, and the principal agent in preparing for the invasion of England. He was the son of Osbern the seneschal, one of William's guardians during his minority, who had been murdered by the young duke's unruly barons. Fitz Osbern founded a monastery at Lire about 1042. He became seneschal to the duke, and urged on the plans for the invasion of England. At the conquest he received the earldom of Hereford with the special duty of pushing into Wales. During William's absence in 1067, English affairs were left in the hands of Fitz Osbern and of Odo, bishop of Bayeux. Fitz Osbern also acted as William's lieutenant during the rebellions of 1069...was one of the feudal lords of the Welsh marches, and built several castles for the defence of the border. In 1070 William sent him to assist Queen Matilda in the government of Normandy. But Richilde, widow of Baldwin VI of Flanders, having offered to marry him if he would protect her son Arnulf against Robert the Frisian, Fitz Osbern accepted the proposal and joined Richilde in Flanders.
