[12647] Shirley's obituary: "Dearly beloved and faithful Servant of Jesus Christ, Shirley 'Virginia' J. Heichel, went home to be with our Lord on July 4, 2011. She celebrated her 84th birthday on September 28, 2010. Virginia was born in LaGrande, Oregon, the second of four children, to Jerry C. Miner, Sr. and Lola Elizabeth (Campbell) Miner, but spent most of her growing up years in Warm Beach, Washington, graduating from Stanwood High School. Virginia worked at The Boeing Company during World War II and attended Everett Business College. During this period of time, Virginia met her lifetime sweetheart, John Rodney Heichel, at a dance and the two were married three weeks later. They borrowed John's older brother, Byron's, car and eloped to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. They married on February 10, 1947. For many years thereafter, the two 'rekindled' their marriage by taking annual trips to Coeur d'Alene to celebrate their anniversary. The two were married for 59 years. Virginia's life took on many different roles -- daughter, sister, devoted wife - helpmate, friend, daughter-in-law, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother (fondly remembered as 'G. G.'), aunt, awesome baker/cook, and assistant. Besides excelling as a homemaker, Virginia worked as a waitress and cook at the family owned café known as Heichel's Café at Heichel's Corner (the pies were renown). She later assisted her husband with his naturopathic practice for a number of years, exhibiting her natural compassion for her fellow man. Virginia will be sorely missed. Virginia will be remembered for her deep love and devotion to family and dear friends, her warm and gentle ways including her natural ability to put people at ease, cheerful countenance, a good listener and sense of humor. She loved to fish and travel and had an immense appreciation for God's great creation. She had a strong love of country and was very patriotic. Virginia was a 'lifelong' member of Freeborn Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid. She also joined the Red Hats and Ladies Quilting group where quilts were sewn and distributed to those in need. Virginia so enjoyed spending time with these caring, tireless, and devoted women. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, John; their oldest child, John Rodney Heichel, Jr.; her father and mother; and one brother. Virginia is survived by her two daughters, Shirley (John) Mason and Laura (Brad) Ludwig; and one son, Robert Heichel; grandchildren, Jennifer Naomi (Gerald) Henry, Brian Mason, April Joy (Micah) Wriglesworth, and Amy Elizabeth (Aerol) Paden; great-grandchildren, Rodney Lee and Makenna Joy Wriglesworth, and Nylah Rose Henry; brothers, Clyde (Margaret) Miner and Jerry C. (Marilyn) Miner, Jr., and sister-in-law, Lois Miner; sister-in-law, Lois Heichel, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Byron and Julia Heichel, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. . . . A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 9, at Freeborn Lutheran Church, Stanwood, Washington. A private Graveside Service to be held at the Arlington Cemetery."
