[12646] John's obituary: "John Rodney Heichel, N.D., dearly beloved and faithful servant of Jesus Christ, went home to be with our Lord May 8, 2006. John celebrated his 83rd birthday March 15. He was born in Stuart, Nebraska, the youngest of seven children, to Byron G. and Susan L. (Arthur) Heichel, and spent most of his growing up years in Iowa and Ohio. He moved from Ohio to Washington State in 1937, and graduated from Mount Vernon High School. John attended the University of Washington until, in 1942, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. He was stationed in China, India and Guam. John honorably served as 1st lieutenant and was a B29 pilot, 3rd Photo Recon. After John completed his military service, along with his two brothers, Byron and Joseph, both of which were POWs, the three formed 'Heichel Brothers,' and built a gas station, cafe, and real estate office at 'Heichel's Corner,' as well as two additional real estate offices in Marysville and Arlington. During this period of time, John met his lifetime sweetheart, Shirley ('Virginia') J. Miner, at a dance, and the two were married three weeks later. They borrowed John's older brother, Byron's car and eloped to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. They married on Feb. 10, 1947. For many years, thereafter, the two 'rekindled' their marriage by taking annual trips to Coeur d'Alene to celebrate their anniversary. John attended the National College of Naturopathic Medicine in Seattle, and graduated as a Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine. John had deep compassion for those who were suffering and considered it a privilege to care for such. John will be remembered for his quick wit as well as great care and compassion for his fellow man. He was an avid reader, loved to fish and travel, had an immense appreciation for God's great creation, and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He will be sorely missed. John was preceded in death by his oldest child, John Rodney Heichel, Jr.; his father and mother; two brothers and two sisters. John is survived by his beloved wife, Shirley; two daughters, Shirley (John) Mason, Laura (Brad) Ludwig; and one son, Robert Heichel; as well as grandchildren, Jennifer Naomi (Gerald) Henry, Brian Mason, April Ludwig and Amy Ludwig; sister Maurine (Lowell) Reed; brother, Byron (Julia) Heichel; sister-in-law, Lois Heichel; brothers-in-law, Clyde (Margaret) Miner and Jerry C. (Marilyn) Miner; and sister-in-law, Lois Miner; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A very warm and special thank you to Warm Beach Senior Community for their unfailing care, compassion, and love of John and his family. A memorial service was held at 11:30 a.m., Sat., May 13, at Freeborn Lutheran Church, Stanwood. A private graveside service held at the Arlington Cemetery."
[24275] Margaret is daughter of Thomas Hendricks and Polly Burk according to a World Family Tree file. This and the succeeding generations are not verified, but as presented in that file which follows one of their ten children, John.
