Mike Stafford (12580 Havelock Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90066) shared in 2002 that George is son of Sylvester Stover and Elizabeth Norton - based on strong circumstantial evidence. Mike provided this genealogy: From the New England Historical and Genealogical Register 1931 Vol LXXXV Pages 302-303: George Stover (Sylvester), of York, Me., yeoman, born about 1668 (according to a deposition dated at York, 12 Apr 1748, in which, as yeaoman, he gives his residence as York in the County of York, and his age as upward of eighty years (York Deeds, Vol 26, fo. 265)), died bet 12 Apr 1748 and 2 Apr 1753, when his will was proved: Me married first Abigail Elwell, daughter of Capt. Isaac Elwell of Gloucester, Mass: and secondly (intention recorded at York, 29 Aug 1741) Elizabeth Webber, widow of Samuel Webber. During the Indian wars of 1688-1712 he moved his family from danger and lived at Gloucester, Mass., and the births of eight of his children are recorded there. Two more children are recorded at York, whither he returned after the peoace of 1712, and the birth of one son, Joesph, mentioned in his will as an "elder son" is not recorded in either place.

During the Indian Wars of 1688-1712 George lived in Gloucester, MA. The births of 8 of his children were recorded there. He was a merchant and fisherman. Brothers George and Dependence divided their estates among their children; the vast holdings of their father, Sylvester - the third generation sells much of it. He married Abigail ELWELL (daughter of Capt. Isaac ELWELL of Gloucester, MA) on 25 JAN 1692/93. Abigail ELWELL b. 13 APR 1676. She died before 1741. He m. Mrs. Elizabeth WEBBER after 29 AUG 1741. George STOVER and Abigail ELWELL had:
