He was christened on 16 Jan 1784 in Bern Twp., Berks Co., PA (Hahns Church). He died on 20 Apr 1833. He was buried in Uniontown, Lake Twp., Stark Co., OH (Lutheran Evangelical Cemetery). In A.L. Kuhlman's letter to Almeda Coleman Wise, he says that Almeda indicated that Jacob Kuhlman had twelve children. A.L. Kuhlman then says that he has the names of 11 of them. Parents: Jacob Culmann and Magtalena (Magdalena) Minig. He was married to Barbara Emrich in 1808. Marguerite Kathryn Swagler writes: 'Johan George, son of Joh. Culmann and Susanna. IGI Records at the Wayne County Library, Wooster, OH. I think perhaps that this is our Johannes Culman. I have no proof of this. I think his name was Johan George because his son Jacob b. 1755 named one of his sons, Johann Georig. It is the right time period.'

In the Pennsylvania German Pioneers by Ralph Bever Strassburger and William J. Hinke, Baltimore Genealogical Publishing Co. Pg. 690, list 243 C. The Foreigners whose names are underwritten, imported in the ship Polly, Capt. Ancestry.com offers: "Coleman Name Meaning - Irish: Anglicized form of Gaelic Ó Colmáin 'descendant of Colmán'. This was the name of an Irish missionary to Europe, generally known as St. Columban (c.540-615), who founded the monastery of Bobbio in northern Italy in 614. With his companion St. Gall, he enjoyed a considerable cult throughout central Europe, so that forms of his name were adopted as personal names in Italian (Columbano), French (Colombain), Czech (Kollman), and Hungarian (Kálmán). From all of these surnames are derived. In Irish and English, the name of this saint is identical with diminutives of the name of the 6th-century missionary known in English as St. Columba (521-97), who converted the Picts to Christianity, and who was known in Scandinavian languages as Kalman. Irish: Anglicized form of Gaelic Ó Clumháin 'descendant of Clumhán', a personal name from the diminutive of clúmh 'down', 'feathers'. English: occupational name for a burner of charcoal or a gatherer of coal, Middle English coleman, from Old English col '(char)coal' + mann 'man'. English: occupational name for the servant of a man named Cole. Jewish (Ashkenazic): Americanized form of Kalman. Americanized form of German Kohlmann or Kuhlmann."

From a file on Ancestry.com in 2011: "The History of the County Palatine and City of Chester Compiled from Original Evidences in Public Offices, the Harleian and Cottonian Mss., Parochial Registers, Private Muniments, Unpublished Ms. Collections of Successive Cheshire An, Ormerod, George, (2nd edition. 3volumes. London: G. Routledge, 1882), FHL microfilm 547521 Item 2., vol. 2 p. 415.

"The pedigrees usually commence with this Adam, whom they give as first known ancestor, who came from "Audithlegh in Normandy," into England at the conquest. From his they deduce an unbroken descent to the present time. The first four descents embrace a period of two centuries, but allowing this Adam de Audithlegh to have lived in the reign of Hen. I [5 Aug 1100-1 Dec 1135], as is possible, another descent might well be added in the person of Sir William de Stanlegh, who is stated in some of the pedigrees to have had issue who ob. s.p. when his younger brother, Adam, succeeded as heir."

"Camden, Dugdale, and all our antiquaries agree, that this noble family is a branch of the old Barons Audeley, of Audeley in Staffordshire, whereof Adam de Audeley had the manor of Raveney in Cumberland, of the gift of King Henry I. he had also lands in Bagenhalt, in Cheshire, by the gift of John Poynton. He had two sons, Lydulph and Adam."
