[24205] Find A Grave Memorial 18915181 offers: "Jacob Beissel was born in the town of Northampton, Northampton County, Pa which is directly north of Allentown by approx. 6 miles (1). He joined the Pennsylvania Militia Division at the age of 17. At the beginning of the War, he first served with Captain Ralston's 6th Class, 6th Company, in the 4th Battalion as a private. It was Jacob Beissel who served with the Associators and Militia of the County of Northampton in the year 1776. A general muster roll of the 4th Battalion of Northampton County Militia was held on May 14, 1778 with Colonel John Sigfried commanding and Lt. Col. Nicholas Kern and Major James Boyd in service on June 23, 1783. Jacob Beissel was listed as a Lieutenant under Major John Trexler at the close of the War. Jacob's older brother John (Hans) Peter Beissel, Jr. (1754-1829) and their father Hans Peter Beissel, Sr. (1725 in Europe 1783) also served as private 3rd Class and Private 2nd Class respectively in Captain John Ralston's 6th Company, 4th Battalion, Northumberland Co. Militia. Jacob Beissel married Gertrude Wagner in 1780 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Macungie, Lehigh County, Pennsylvania. Macungie is approx. 8 miles southwest of Allentown. About 1789, he moved to Oxford Township in Chester County, Pa approx. 63 miles southwest of Allentown. His daughter Salome was born here on 9-21-1789. He later moved to Leck Kill, Pa which is approx. 75 miles northwest of Oxford, Pa. In 1853 the St. John's Church, Lutheran and Reformed was organized. Among the early members were the following three sons of Jacob Beissel: Peter Beissel (1801-1873), Jacob Beissel and Daniel H. Beissel, Sr. (1782-1860). There is no mention of Jacob's other two sons, Johannes John (1791-1851) and Samuel H. Beissel (1803-1872). Also none of the following five sons-in-law of Jacob Beissel are listed as taxables of Mahoney Township in 1778: Ludwig Byerly, Jacob Brosius, George Hepler, Daniel Swartz and Daniel Snyder. Jacob Beissel's Last Will and Testament was completed 3-26-1828. Besides all 5 sons and all 5 daughters that were mentioned in Jacob's will, he included his wife Gertrude (Wagner). His Will in part read as follows: 'One stove and pipe, one cow fit and pastured summer and winter...' The witnesses for this Will were Jacob Smith and Jacob Wagoner. Jacob Beissel's tombstone reads as follows: "Here rests Johannes Jacob Beissel, born on the 8th day of January 1758 and died on the 12th of September 1829 aged 71 years, 8 months, and 4 days." His resting place is St. James (Jacob's) or Howerter Lutheran and Reformed Church Cemetary, Leck Kill, Pa. Note received 11-17-11 from Find-A-Grave contributor lsk4psu@ptd.net: 'Thank you for all of the information about Jacob Beisel. He's my 6th great grandfather. As a note, the city of Allentown first went by the name 'Northampton' until 1838, so the reference to today's Northampton being 6 miles away from Allentown is most likely not necessary. It's probable that Jacob was actually from what is known as today's Allentown.'"

[12645] Shirley's obituary: "Dearly beloved and faithful Servant of Jesus Christ, Shirley 'Virginia' J. Heichel, went home to be with our Lord on July 4, 2011. She celebrated her 84th birthday on September 28, 2010. Virginia was born in LaGrande, Oregon, the second of four children, to Jerry C. Miner, Sr. and Lola Elizabeth (Campbell) Miner, but spent most of her growing up years in Warm Beach, Washington, graduating from Stanwood High School. Virginia worked at The Boeing Company during World War II and attended Everett Business College. During this period of time, Virginia met her lifetime sweetheart, John Rodney Heichel, at a dance and the two were married three weeks later. They borrowed John's older brother, Byron's, car and eloped to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. They married on February 10, 1947. For many years thereafter, the two 'rekindled' their marriage by taking annual trips to Coeur d'Alene to celebrate their anniversary. The two were married for 59 years. Virginia's life took on many different roles -- daughter, sister, devoted wife - helpmate, friend, daughter-in-law, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother (fondly remembered as 'G. G.'), aunt, awesome baker/cook, and assistant. Besides excelling as a homemaker, Virginia worked as a waitress and cook at the family owned café known as Heichel's Café at Heichel's Corner (the pies were renown). She later assisted her husband with his naturopathic practice for a number of years, exhibiting her natural compassion for her fellow man. Virginia will be sorely missed. Virginia will be remembered for her deep love and devotion to family and dear friends, her warm and gentle ways including her natural ability to put people at ease, cheerful countenance, a good listener and sense of humor. She loved to fish and travel and had an immense appreciation for God's great creation. She had a strong love of country and was very patriotic. Virginia was a 'lifelong' member of Freeborn Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid. She also joined the Red Hats and Ladies Quilting group where quilts were sewn and distributed to those in need. Virginia so enjoyed spending time with these caring, tireless, and devoted women. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, John; their oldest child, John Rodney Heichel, Jr.; her father and mother; and one brother. Virginia is survived by her two daughters, Shirley (John) Mason and Laura (Brad) Ludwig; and one son, Robert Heichel; grandchildren, Jennifer Naomi (Gerald) Henry, Brian Mason, April Joy (Micah) Wriglesworth, and Amy Elizabeth (Aerol) Paden; great-grandchildren, Rodney Lee and Makenna Joy Wriglesworth, and Nylah Rose Henry; brothers, Clyde (Margaret) Miner and Jerry C. (Marilyn) Miner, Jr., and sister-in-law, Lois Miner; sister-in-law, Lois Heichel, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Byron and Julia Heichel, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. . . . A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 9, at Freeborn Lutheran Church, Stanwood, Washington. A private Graveside Service to be held at the Arlington Cemetery."
