[702] Richard settled at Scituate, Mass. by or about 1640; in 1643 settler in York Co., Maine where he was a Provincial Councilor (1651-2), Selectman, Trial Justice or Commissioner, Court Appraiser, etc. (-ref.: "Genealogy & History of the Chute Family in America" [at Madison, Wisc. Historical Library]). See "The Bank(e)s Family of Maine," C. E. Banks, NEHGR 1890, pp. 258-263. Richard m. (1) Elizabeth Curtis and they had Elizabeth. The LDS Church's Ancestral File (not verified) reports: "Richard Banks (AFN: 9J6T-6H), b. 1626 in Alkham ?, co. Kent, England, died 25 Jan 1691/1692 ?, in York, ME. Parents not known. Marriage(s): Elizabeth Alcock (AFN: 9J6T-7N), ca. 1656 "of York, ME"; Elizabeth Curtis (AFN: HQ9F-XK), m. ca. 1644, "of Ash Juxte, Sandwich, Co. Kent, England"; Joan Harrison (AFN: XMG0-5K), m. after 25 Oct 1631 in England." Cf. "Genealogy and History of the Chute Family in America". http://www.one-barton-family.us/genealogy/viva/d2711.html (not verified) states Richard "was a victim of the York massacre." "History of York, Maine," Banks, Charles Edward (Baltimore: Regional Publishing Co., 1967) Vol. I, p. 155, identifies him through circumstantial evidence as the Richard Banks, tailor, who lived in the parish of Alkham, co. Kent, about two miles from his future brother-in-law, Thomas Curtis (who emigrated to Scituate, MA) - this Richard Banks was licensed to marry 15 Oct 1631 at St. Andrews Church, Canterbury to Joan Harrison of Elham, to whom three children were born (the last bapt. 5 Sept 1641 after which the family disappears from co. Kent records) - (p. 156:) "Richard Banks appears in Scituate, Mass., where he took the oath of fidelity . . . probably about 1642, and there is nothing to show that he came with a family, and it is assumed that this wife and the two young children died before his emigration. . . . he married for a second wife Elizabeth Curtis, sister of Thomas Curtis...about 1644. . . . [After she disappears from the records, perhaps dying, he] married for his third wife Elizabeth, daughter of John and Elizabet Alcock . . . . (p. 157:) He was killed in the Indian Massacre January 25, 1692, and his widow and two sons made an agreement April 22, 1696 as to the division of the estate." Banks, op. cit., p. 202a, shows a map of York Village with the house lots of the original settlers, indicating Richard Banks' lot along "Scituate Row." [50783] "The Ellsworth American [Ellsworth, Maine], 6 June 2022": "Amherst - Lawrence Mace, 85, of Amherst passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2022, at his home after a lengthy illness. Born Nov. 28, 1936, in Portsmouth, N.H., Larry was the youngest son of Hanson and Marie (Hutchinson) Mace and grew up in Eliot. He was a student athlete at Eliot High School and Gorham State Teachers College, graduating in 1958. Larry began his career in education teaching in Milford, Conn., and received his Masters of Education from the University of Bridgeport. After marrying Pamela A. Raymond in 1962, the couple moved to Milford, where they resided until 1970, when they moved to Bangor. Larry enjoyed teaching woodshop at Old Town High School from 1970 until his retirement in 1991. In 1972, the couple moved to Amherst, where they raised their three children. Larry purchased a tractor and began working the farm at the house, planting gardens, logging the land for firewood and keeping bees. In his spare time Larry was an avid hunter and fisherman, often taking trips to Labrador, Alaska and other remote locations with his friends, relatives and former students who shared his passion for the outdoors. He had great times hunting with his nephew, Norm Clough. In his later years, Larry looked forward to visits with his children and grandchildren. Together they enjoyed annual camping trips and time in Baxter State Park and Acadia. Larry loved playing cards and following sports teams like the Patriots, Red Sox and UMaine hockey. He also enjoyed spending time with his good friend Donnie Jordan, whether they were capturing bee swarms, working on projects or checking out the blueberry fields. After receiving his cancer diagnosis, his family fulfilled his bucket list wishes by traveling to over a dozen national parks across the country from California to Florida. They are all very thankful for the memories. Larry is survived by his wife, Pamela; his son Earle and his wife, Cindy; his son David and his partner Ruth; his daughter Jennifer and her husband, Claudio Scremin; his five grandsons Ian, Andrew and Seth Mace and Matthew and Jacob Scremin; and his sister Mary Main and her partner Rod Vaillancourt. He was predeceased by his brother Earle and sisters Blanche Clark, Polly Bowden and Barbara Clough."
