[33821] The unverified Brenton Family Tree in Ancestry.com in 2012 provides this person and states Joseph m. Elizabeth Jonson (b. ca. 1475). Ancestry.com offers: "Avery Name Meaning - English: from the Anglo-Norman French personal name Auvery, a Norman form of Alfred. It could also be from a variant of the Anglo-Norman French personal name Aubri (see Aubrey). At least in the case of the original Puritan settlers in New England, there has been some confusion with Averill."

Mark E. Honey, "The Leaches of Penobscot..." (Ellsworth, ME: 1996), Part IV, pp. 21-22: "Capt. Peter Mograge Leach did not have an easy life. Three of his first eight children died as young children or infants. A fourth child was lost at sea at 10 and another son was lost at sea at 23. A son-in-law was also lost at sea. A sixth child died in her late 20s. His first wife passed away at 44. We can little understand the cruelty that life often dealt to our fore-fathers, or the hardships and challenges that put enormous strains on their families.
"Captain Peter and Dorothy Hutchins Leach had the first eight children. The last group of eight were by his cousin Deborah Sellars who he married in 1845.
"A special relationship existed between Capt. Peter's family and that of his wife's cousins Daniel and William Leach. The men probably fished together and joined in various enterprises. The children of these families would intermarry, and tragically, perish together aboard the 'Ocean Wave.'
"Capt. Peter Leach became the head of one of Penobscot's great maritime families, a dynasty founded on the challenges of maritime commerce and the pursuit of the 'golden' cod."
Descendants are given, pp. 22ff.
The federal census at Penobscot 20 Aug 1850 lists Peter (age 47, farmer), Deborah (26), Peter Jr. (15, mariner), Sally (13), Otis (9), Dorothy (7), Margaret (6), Colin (4), Edgar (1) and Ednah (1).

[56153] Alice's obituary: "Northeast Harbor - Alice G. Carter passed away on October 14, 2023, at age 94, after a long and full life. Born in Northeast Harbor, she was the daughter of L. Frances (Conary) Murphy, and grew up with her grandparents, Captain Elmer E. Conary and his wife, Gertrude (Fernald) Conary. Alice spent her early years at Mark Island Lighthouse, off Stonington, where her grandfather was the lightkeeper. She returned to Northeast Harbor at age six to attend Stetson Grammar School and then Gilman High School. She was, she proudly recounted, the valedictorian for the class of 1948. At Gilman she met Lewis K. Moore who she married in the summer of 1948. From this marriage came a son, Lewis E. Moore. The pair later divorced and several years later she met Dwight B. Carter from Seal Harbor. Alice and Dwight married in 1959 and were joined by two daughters, Katrina and Jennifer. As a young woman Alice held many jobs in Northeast Harbor and enjoyed reminiscing about them with friends and family. During high school she worked at the Asticou Inn. Hired as a dishwasher, she was too short to do her job and a wooden stool had to be built so she could reach the sinks. Promoted in subsequent summers, she later served in the dining room. She also worked as a telephone operator in the Northeast Harbor office and spent time working as an assistant for Dr. Haskell, the village dentist. In the early 1960s she worked at Mrs. Tracys Shop in Northeast Harbor, where the display windows overlooking Main Street occasionally doubled as playpens for Katrina and Jennifer. In 1967, Alice and Dwight opened Carters Real Estate from their home in Northeast Harbor and together they earned a reputation as honest and devoted real estate brokers and rental agents. Together they worked closely with clients and Alice took great pride in the longstanding friendships that owed their origins to real estate transactions. Beyond real estate, Alice and Dwight worked together for more than 30 years managing The Harbor Club in Seal Harbor and Alice stepped up with 'Nannys Sannies' whenever Dwight needed somebody to make sandwiches for Main Street Variety. Together, Alice and Dwight were a team. Alice believed strongly in civic involvement and remained active in many organizations well into her 80s. She was a pillar of the Union Church in Northeast Harbor and served as a Trustee for decades. As a member of the Guild she organized countless church fairs and dinners, and she was especially proud of her involvement in fundraising for the present day Parish House. She was on the board of the Mount Desert Development Trust, an early effort to erect workforce housing on Mount Desert Island, and often pointed out the Sound Drive residence built by this group in the early 1990s. She was also involved in the Mount Desert Housing Authority, the Mt. Desert Island Hospital Auxiliary, and the Cranberry Island Ladies Aid. She helped wherever she felt a need and was generous with her time and skills. Alice loved her family and her community deeply and spent her life devoted to both. Alice is survived by her children, Lewis E. Moore and Katrina L. Carter (Mark Middleton), three grandsons, Benjamin C. Moore (Melissa Moore), Christopher S. Moore (Korin Moore), and Willie Granston, and two great-granddaughters, Taylor and Gabrielle Moore. Alice is also survived by nieces and nephews, cousins, and numerous friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Dwight B. Carter in 2001, and her daughter, Jennifer L. Carter in 2004. Alices family is deeply grateful to Marlene Walker and Charlene Wallace, of Total Care Solutions in Holden, for all they did to keep Alice safe and happy when she was no longer able to live in her home on Harborside Road."
