"The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 23 July 2021: "Lincoln - Neal Lewis Doane, 66, peacefully went to be with the Lord and Savior on Wednesday, July 21, with his loved ones by his side at his home in Lincoln, Maine. He was born October 13, 1954, in Lincoln, the eldest son of Lewis Doane and Dorothy (Thompson) Doane.
Neal was predeceased by his father; his infant son, Timothy; his father-in-law, Wyman Russell Sr.; his mother-in-law, Alvira Russell; and his brother-in-law, James Russell Sr. Neal grew up in Kingman, Maine and was a graduate of Lee Academy. He joined the Marines out of high school and was proud to serve his country. Following his service, he worked for 35 years at Lincoln Pulp and Paper. He was also a member of the American Legion and the D.A.V. In his younger years, Neal liked to play baseball. He loved Western movies, novels, and television shows. Bonanza was an all-time favorite. He was a skilled woodworker, having made several special pieces for his children over the years. Neal loved to reminisce, and he always had a story to tell. Neal enjoyed gardening and feeding birds. He liked watching the deer on his lawn in Mattawamkeag, where he lived for many years with his wife, Dee. Prior to his illness, Neal was a fixture at the Crossroad's restaurant in Mattawamkeag and he could be found there most mornings, having a cup of coffee, and being filled in on the local gossip. Neal loved his wife more than anything and felt blessed to have her as his partner in life. Early in their marriage, they enjoyed trips together to Florida, Connecticut, and coastal areas of Maine. Neal and Delia worshiped together at the Bible Baptist Church in Mattawamkeag. He loved his children dearly and was very proud of them. He was often showing off pictures of his children and grandchildren and bragging about them to the hospital and dialysis staff who cared for him. Having been diagnosed with COPD and emphysema, Neal bravely underwent a double lung transplant in 2018, following which he struggled to regain quality of life. His family is relieved to know that he is now at peace. Neal is survived by his wife, Delia (Russell) Doane; his children, Sammy Whitney, Rachel Pawlowski and her husband, Nick, Dakota Doane, Valerie Caras and her husband, Adam, and A.J. Thompson and his wife, Jordynne; his mother, Dot Doane; grandchildren, T.J., Emily and Katie Whitney, Elias and Atticus Pawlowski, and Violet and Hudson Caras; siblings, Dana Doane and Ellie Hanscom, Brenda Pratt and her husband, Donald, Luke Doane and his wife, Brandee, and Loretta Hersom and her husband, Dana; brothers-in-law, Wyman Russell Jr., Wayne Russell and his wife, Jill, Roger Russell and his wife, Mary, and David Russell; and a sister-in-law, Donna Russell; along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Neal also leaves behind his dog, Stewie, who brought him much comfort and companionship in his time at home."
