F, 104th PA Infantry Regiment with five months and 18 days of service - and indicates that at the time of the survey he r. Saville Twp. and has "constant sorness and rheumatism in the small of back." The 1880 federal census of Saville Twp., Perry Co., PA lists him as head of household with wife Sarah E. (age 40) and children Elmer E. (18), Annie (17), Carlonie (15 and "hired out"), Arelia (13), George (11), Edward (9), Amanda (6) and Harry (4). The 1900 Census of Saville Twp. lists Conrad S. (b. Dec. 1839) and wife Sarah E. (b. Dec. 1838) with daughter Ellie F. (b. Nov. 1880). "The Perry County Democrat [New Bloomfield, PA], 12 April 1911," p. 3: "Conrad S. Rice, a well-known farmer of Saville township, died at his home at Saville Wednesday of last week, aged 71 years, 3 months and 12 days. His death was sudden and was caused by heart failure, following an attack of pleurisy. Mr. Rice was a good, substantial citizen and led a consistent christian life. He was a member of the Reformed church. The funeral was held on Saturday forenoon, the services being conducted by Rev. Dr. J. W. Meminger, of Lancaster city, and Rev. P. H. Hoover, of Blain. Interment was made in the Buffalo cemetery."
