She was born in Shelby, O., and moved to Akron 53 years ago. She was a member of the High St. Christian Church and a charter member of its Dorcas Society. Mrs Hershiser leaves sons, Alden of Cuyahoga Falls and Sterling of Gadsden, Ala.; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, and sisters, Mrs. Helen Roberts of Akron and Mrs. Lucy Fensch of Mansfield. Dr. Franklin H. Minck will conduct services Saturday at 1 p. m. in the Adams Funeral Home, where friends may call after 2 p. m. Friday. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park."

He was born near Centerville, west of Loysville...moved to Loysville when he was about eight...doubtless attended local parish school adjoining Lebanon Church andmay have had no further formal schooling...learned the shoemaking trade and helped on the farm ?[is a volume entitled ' 'John Tressler's Day Book' ' which he wrote when he was fifteen years old which contains detailed records of goods and prices and labor and pay...probably was book-keeper for his father's farm and tavern and store (?)?...was married to Elizabeth Loy by Rev. William Heim in 1826...John was the first Superintendent of the Sunday School at the Loysville Church in 1828...conducted in German until 1830...about 1833 the couple accepted an invitation to move with their three small children to the George Loy farm...they later bought this 200-acre farm and lived on it until John died in May, 1859, his widow remaining until...Apr 1868...here ten of their children were born...eleven lived to adulthood...John was also Chairman of the Lutheran congregation, a lay preacher, leader of the singing school, precentor in the church, a Director of Gettysburg Theological Seminary...was supervisor of road taxes in 1842...was a commissioner to build a plank road from the Pennsylvania RR through Perry County (not built)?...four sons attended Pennsylvania College at Gettysburg, 45 miles south and the other two graduated in medicine...some of the daughters attended the Young Ladies Seminary at Selingsgrove ...John and Elizabeth started Loysville Academy in their home...it was transferred into the Soldiers' Orphans Home in 1865 which was taken over by the Lutheran Church in 1868...John ...organized and trained men for the military service...was commissioned by Governor Wolf in 1835 as Lieutenant-Colonel of the 33rd Regiment of the Pennsylvania Militia...was known as ' 'Colonel' ' state law required all able-bodied men between 18-24 to enroll...two training days annually...Muster Day and Parade Day...from exposure at one of these coldand rainy days, he developed pneumonia and died in three weeks on May 4, 1859...buried Loysville Union Church cemetery...family continued to conduct farm and academy...one son, David organized a military company of Academy student and local boys, including his younger brother, Josiah...David was wounded at the Battle of Fredericksburg...was invalided home and never recovered from these wounds ...Elizabeth Loy Tressler...remained on the farm until 1868...son George in charge...sold to Daniel Gutshall...left Loysville in April 1868...went to Iowa and Illinois...settled with son David...President of Lutheran College at Carthage, Ill...grandmother returned to Pennsylvania in 1880 afterDavid died...lived with various daughters...died at the home of Mary Arnold in Harrisburg and was buried beside her husband at Lebanon Church Cemetery..." Flickinger (wife of David, age 42), Araminta McGee (age 15), Albert C. Willhide (age 32, farmer), Nancy Willhide (age 36), Daisie L. Willhide (age 7) and Elizabeth Yokem [sic] (age 14). Zephaniah's ancestry is not verified - it is as offered by Christina Straub in "Straubs, Smiths and Extended Family" on rootsweb.com in 2007. "The Perry County Times, 19 Apr 1951", p. 10: "Carlisle, April 17. Zephaniah M. Willhide, 75, of Monroe Township, Carlisle, R. D. 1, a former resident of Perry county, died Friday morning, April 13, at his home. The son of the late Albert and Nancy Elder Willhide, he was a member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, Churchtown. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Sally Seager Willhide; two sons and two daughters, Seager Clae Willhide, of Carlisle; Culver Z. and Gayle Willhide, at home, and Mrs. Leroy Dunkleberger, Churchtown; a sister, Mrs. Mahlon Sowers, West Conshohocken; seven grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren."
