Shumaker a well known and highly esteemed citizen of Loysville was taken ill of grip, which was followed by a paralytic stroke just a week previous to his death, which occurred at his homw near Loysville Sunday evening, April 29, at 7.40 o'clock. He was aged 64 years, 3 months and 6 days. Mr. Shumaker was the son of William and Sarah (Billman) Shumaker and was born on tho old homestead, now owned by his brother Samuel and which is near the farm he owned and lived on at the time of his death. During his entire life he lived in and near Loysville. He was married Dec. 23, 1884, to Mary Jane Freeman, by Rev. Groh, pastor of the Reformed Church. To this union was born one son, John, Jr., who lived with his father on the farm. He is survived by his wife, son and the following brothers and sisters: Samuel Shumaker and Annie, Mrs. George Freeman of Loysville; Sadie, Mrs. Wm. Smith, Buck's Valley, and G. B. McCIellan Shumaker, of Lewistown, the latter two having been with him during his last Illness and death. Mr. Shumaker united with the Lutheran church some years ago and for almost ten years filled the office of trustee."
