He suffered intensely and Friday his condition was much worse, but he rallied a brief period before his death. Dr. J.A. Sheibley of Shermansdale, was called in consultation with Dr. E.E. In 1913 and 1914 he also played with the Newport teams and with New Cumberland several seasons. He had been employed by the S.R.&W.R.R. for six years and on June 11, 1815, was squeezed between the couplers of two cars since which time he had not been in the best of health. He served as brakeman when he entered the employ; later he was promoted to fireman and also made the daily runs as engineer for a short time, when he was chosen conductor and continued in that position up until about three months ago when after station agent C.G. Weaver's deeath he entered the railroad office and from there he was made ticket agent about a month ago at which he served up until his death. He was a member of the S.R.&W.R.R. [2984] Baptised at Allemangel Moravian (?) Church north of Stony Run. Charles H. Glatfelter, "Pastors and People: German Lutheran and Reformed Churches in the Pennsylvania Field, 1717-1793," Vol. I (Breinigsville, PA: PA German Society, 1980) reports: "New Allemangel and Friedens: located in Albany Twp. and organized in 1770, New Allemangel was formed after a split from old Allemangel Church. They completed a new building which was dedicated in 1771. Lutheran Daniel Schumacher and Reformed Frederick Berger provided the pastoral support for the breakoff congregation and a new union church register was begun on 20 May 1771. It was widely known as White Church. The Reformed withdrew from the union in 1960 and the Lutheran Congregation in 1980 was known as Friedens Lutheran, located at Stony Run 12 miles north of Kutztown." Note: Moravians often provided pastoral care for Lutherans before there were Lutheran pastors available in the area. For Albany Twp., Berks Co., PA see: http://www.enter.net/~albanyhis/index.html.
