[30539] The Stover Family Tree in ancestry.com in 2010 offers his information and states he r. Jackson Twp., Lebanon Co., PA.
Hans is apparently identified in this article from Richard Dice's Web Site on the family in 2002: HANS JOST THIES (1642-1676) & HANS MATTEIS THIES/THEISS (1670-1732) - The earliest known son of THOMAS THEISS of Ruthweiler, HANS JOST THIES, was born May 15, 1642, in Ruthweiler, Tal Lichtenberg. We know this from the Lichtenberg Church records (Taufen) LDS film 0493254. The village of Lichtenberg, situated directly above Ruthweiler with its famours Lichtenberg Castle, can be seen from Ruthweiler below (See the Ruthweiler Photo Album for some nice shots). Hans Josts godparent is Jost Morgenstern of Konken; another sponsor is Anna Catherine Melchior as well as someone who is the Schultheiss (mayor) of Baumholder. Images of Hans Josts birth and death records can be viewed in the File Cabinet section of this site. His death is reported on the same page of the Lichtenburg Death Records as his fathers. I have not been able to translate all of Josts record, including one word in particular that begins with E. This word could be his occupation or the cause of his death. Please feel free to give it a try. Hans Jost married MARIA MULLER, the daughter of MATTHIAS KLIEN and MARIA MULLER, on April 14, 1668 and we have the record from the Kusel Kirchenbuch Hieraten. (LDS 193957-58). Before Josts death on March 1, 1676, only six months after the death of his father, Thomas, Hans Jost and Maria had four children: ANNA SARA THIES (LDS 0493256) 3 Feb 1669; HANS MATTEIS THIESS, December 27, 1670; MARGARETHA BARBARA January 27,1673; & JOHAN PETER, November10, 1675.
Maria marries second, Hans Gerhardt, and moves to Grunbach. Sara marries Wilhelm BLIND, and Barbara marries Peter MARTIN. I have, as yet, not been able to track Johann PETER. There are several Peters that appear on the record, but I am not certain he is any of them. Since he appears on none of the taufen of his siblings children I think he may have moved away or died.
Of course, Hans Matthias THEISS, is the father of our immigrant ancestor, Johann Matthias THEISS. Hans Matthias is also is the godparent and namesake for Sara and Wilhelms son Johann Matthias BLIND b 1699 in Ruthweiler, where he lists his occupation as a 'Zimmerman' or carpenter.

vi. JOHANN NICKEL THEISS8,9, b. June 27, 1718. Notes for JOHANN NICKEL THEISS: *Arrived In US with his sister Elizabeth on Ship # 61, The Davy, on October 25, 1738. BIRTH:"Eighteenth Century Emigrants from German-Speaking Lands to North America, Vol. II:pg 320, The Western Palatinate" Annette K. Burgert. Birdsboro,PA: The Pennsylvania German Society, 1985. Joh. Nickel and Mary Elizabeth Theiss, children of Matthias (1670-1732) and Maria Margretha, came to America on the ship DAVY, which arrived in Philadelphia in October 1738. With them were Nicholas Hebner (Heavener), who settled first at Tulpehocken and later on the South Branch, and several members of the Siebert family. The Lichtenberg Manumissions indicated that the widow of Matthias Theiss of Grunbach left for Carolina in 1738, so she, as well as some of the younger children, may have been on this ship with her son Nickel and daughter Elizabeth. No record of her has been found in America. The newspaper PENNSYLVLANIA GAZETTE dated 26 October 1738, reported that 160 of the passengers died on that voyage, and she may have been one of them. - Pennsylvania German Pioneers page 235. ix. JOH MICHAEL THEISS12,13, b. March 14, 1725/26.
Hans Matthias, Jost and Marias, first born son, the father of our Johann Matthias Theiss, is born in December of 1670 (see photo). His godparent is Matthias Klein MULLER, Hans Josts father-in-law. In the years that follow Hans is listed under various spellings in subsequent records as HANS MATTEIS THEIS aka HANS MATTHIAS THEISS aka HANS MATHEUS THEÜSS . He dies in Grünbach, Wolfersweiler, Germany on May 10th 1732. In the Familienbuch of the Wolfersweiler Parish by Von Rudi Jung, we find "HANS MATTHIAS THEIS (1704-1748), Schmeid (blacksmith), son of HANS MATTEIS THEIS of GRÜNBACH," and it is this ancestor who marries SUSANNA BARBEL LAUER and comes to America in 1730. Hans Mattheis appears as a baptism sponsors for several nieces and nephews and from one of these, his nephew and namesake Johann Matthias BLIND (above) we know he was a carpenter by trade ("Zimmerman"). There is no marriage record that I have been able to find, but we speculate a marriage data of about 1703 from the birth of their first child, and we know from subsequent baptism record of their children, that Hanss wifes first name is Margaretha (Maria Maragaretha). From the baptism record of his and Maria Margareths daughter, Anna Margareth, we further learn that Maria Margareths last name is ENGEL. Hans and Maria have 9 children, several of whom come to America. Some, however, remained in the old country. I have attempted to follow those in the GERMAN THEISS LINES. Others apparently come to America and then disappear then vanish. This includes one report of Hans Matthes Theisss widow, Margaretha, and their son Nickel, who may have left for the Carolinas.
4. MARIA BARBARA3 THEIS (HANS JOST2 THEISS, THOMAS1)41,42 was born Bef. January 27, 1672/73 in Ruthweiler, Lichtenberg, Rhineland Pfalz, Germany, and died April 15, 172842. She married PETER MARTIN42, son of JOHANNES MARTIN. He was born 1676 in Grunbach, Rhineland Pfalz.
Children of MARIA THEIS and PETER MARTIN are:
i. MARRA KATHARINA4 MARTIN42, b. November 01, 1702.
ii. ELISABETH BARBEL MARTIN42, b. January 17, 1703/04.
iii. HANS PETER MARTIN42, b. March 29, 1712.
iv. JOHANN PETER MARTIN42, b. November 12, 1716.

[24796] http://goshornhistory.org/downloads/goshorn_history.htm states Appolonia is "daughter of Hans Friedrich (1653-1735) and Anna Maria (Ursula) Ziegler" and lists the twelve children of Appolonia and Johann Philipp. Ancestry.com offers: "Ziegler Name Meaning - German and Jewish (Ashkenazic): occupational name for a tiler, from an agent derivative of Middle High German ziegel 'roof tile' (Old High German ziagal, from Latin tegula), German Ziegel. In the Middle Ages the term came to denote bricks as well as tiles, and so in some cases the term may have denoted a brickmaker or bricklayer rather than a tiler."
