[40244] The unverified Stacey Family Tree in Ancestry.com in 2015 offers: "When Hiram Harrell was born about August 1814, in Van Buren County, Iowa, his father, Stephen, was 29 and his mother, Margaret, was 24. He married Nancy Moore on August 3, 1832, in Rush County, Indiana. They had 11 children during their marriage. He died on February 1, 1894, in Pratt, Kansas, having lived a long life of 79 years." "The Pratt Republican [Pratt, Kansas], 8 February 1894," p. 1: "Hiram Harrell of Iuka died last week Thursday at the residence of his son Robert, aged 79 years, 6 months and 27 days. His disease was called heart failure and was of short duration. Mr. Harrell was born in Rush county, Indiana, July 4th, 1814, and lived in that county till he was about 27 years of age, when with his wife and family he went to Van Buren county, Iowa. He was one of the early settlers in Indiana and endured most of the hardships incident to pioneer life in those heavy timbered countries. He was also an early settler in Iowa. He lived in the Hawkeye state nearly 40 years when he moved to Kansas and settled with his family on a claim two miles southeast of Iuka. This was iu 1879. Mrs. Harrell died iu 1876, leaving deceased with nine sons. All these sons are still living except the eldest, William, who died since moving to this county. Five of these sons, Com, Jerry, James, Robert and Doc., live in this county at the present time and are among our most prosperous and upright citizens. One son. Stephen, lives at Lamar, Colo., Peter lives in Iowa, and Henry in Oklahoma. These sons with their children now form a goodly company in this county and a full attendance of them was out to the funeral of the deceased at the Methodist church last Sabbath morning. The Rev. E. C. Beach preached the funeral sermon, and the body was interred in Green Lawn cemetery. The deceased was a member of the Protestant Methodist church and was known as a good man, as well as a good father and neighbor."
