[10323] The Akron Beacon Journal, 14 Feb 1953, p. 25: A 73-year-old man struck by a car on Tallmadge av. Tuesday night died in St. Thomas Hospital Thursday the city's third 1958 traffic fatality. Robert E. Myers of 712 Patterson av. was hit at 7:30 p. m. Tuesday in front of 134 E. Tallmadge av. The car was driven by John E. Ebner, 29, of 277 Dayton av. Ebner was not held. Ebner told police he was driving east when the accident occurred in the middle of a block. He said Myers was cutting across the street from the north curb. Myers, who suffered broken legs and head injuries, was never able to be questioned by police. Relatives said he was probably trying to catch a bus on Main st. Born in Bath Twp., Mr. Myers was a life resident of Summit County. He taught at Maple Valley School, Hawkins av. and Copley rd from about 1908 to 1913. From then until 1922 he worked at the Summit County Home, becoming assistant superintendent. Mr. Myers joined Firestone Tire & Rubber Co. in 1923, and retired from the receiving department in 1951. He was a life member of Aetolia Lodge, Knights of Pythias. Sueviving are his wife, Viola; a daughter, Mrs. Frances Billings of Akron; a son. Robert Jr. of Copley; a sister, Mrs. Lydia Boltz of Tampa, Fla.; a brother, Park of Akron, and a grandchild.
