She was born Nov. 2, 1953, at Mount Desert Island Hospital. She was the daughter of Thomas and Diane Chase Guthrie. Growing up she attended Ellsworth schools and graduated from Ellsworth High School in the class of 1972. She attended the University of Maine and graduated with a BS in Nursing, becoming a registered nurse. In her career she worked as a nurse in a variety of positions including as a pediatric office nurse, hospice nurse, and in nursing homes. She is survived by her four children: Steven Herrell of Portland, Ore., Sebastian Herrell of Portland, Morgan Diane Pool, her husband Aaron, and their four children William, Adeline Arthur, and Thomas, all of Charlottesville, Va., and Ethan Herrell of Mandeville, La. She is also survived by four siblings: Christine Beres and her husband Joseph of Milo, James Guthrie and his wife Sheila of Sullivan, Stanley Guthrie of Trenton, and his son Thomas Cardenas and daughter Jasmine and her husband Chico and their daughter Maya of San Francisco, Calif., and Steven Guthrie and his wife Jennifer and their daughter Raessler of Melrose, Mass. She was predeceased by a brother, Thomas Guthrie Jr. of Louisiana. Thomas Jr.s wife Grace survives him as do his three children: Chase Guthrie and wife Jacey and daughters Ella Frances and Marie Elizabeth of Little Rock, Ark., Christopher Guthrie of Thibodaux, La., and Dianne Guthrie Joyner of Dallas, Texas. She was predeceased by her mother and father Diane and Thomas Guthrie of Ellsworth, Maine. Emily was outgoing, kind, quick witted, and loved to laugh. She struggled throughout her life with addiction.
