A 1941 graduate of Shelby High School, he was a veteran of World War II serving with the United States Navy aboard the USS Willmarth D.E. 638 in the South Pacific receiving 3 Bronze Stars. He retired as a supervisor from Columbia Gas of Ohio and was a member of the VFW Post 7651 where he served as past Commander, AMVETS Post 26, American Legion Post 16 and the Leiderkranz. Mr. Briner was an original member of the Springfield Township Volunteer Fire Department and was instrumental in starting the football program at Ontario High School and also instrumental in securing the site and building for the VFW Post 7651 in Ontario. He enjoyed golfing and fishing with his son, Tom and traveling with his family. He was also a member of the Ontario Methodist Church. Surviving are a daughter, Lorie Rose of Mt. Vernon; a son, Tom Melanie Briner of Ontario; grandchildren, Dawn Hoffman of Mansfield, Adam Ramey of Mt.
