"Charles Boyle Franks, only son of Michael W. Franks, was born near New Geneva, Nicholson Township, Fayette County, Pennsylvania, July 29, 1867. He obtained his primary education at the Pleasant Hill School in Nicholson Township, then entered the Institute at Mount Pleasant, Pennsylvania, whence he was graduated, class of 1887. He returned to the home farm one year, then having attained his majority began business life working for the Union Supply Company at Valley Works, as clerk in the retail store, remaining until July 1, 1890, when he entered the employ of the H. C. Frick Coke Company, at Mammoth, Westmoreland County, as shipping clerk. On February 1, 1891, he was promoted to assistant superintendent at Mammoth, under Superintendent Fred. C. Keithly. On October 1, 1891, his chief resigned, and Mr. Franks was appointed superintendent of the Mammoth plant. He continued there until February, 1900, as superintendent, then was transferred to Leisenring No. 1 as superintendent of the coke works and coal mines there belonging to the H. C. Frick Coke Company, and still continues in that position. He is, as all the Franks have always been, a strong Democrat, and has for the past ten years served continuously as school director. In 1909 he represented Fayette County at the State School Directors Convention held in Harrisburg. It was through his influence and effort that the first township high school in Fayette County was established at Leisenring No. 1 in 1907. Outside his business, there is nothing in which Mr. Franks is more deeply interested than in providing adequate facilities for the education of the youth of his county. He is a member of the Baptist church, as is his wife.
"In May, 1912, he represented his party at the Democratic State Convention at Harrisburg. His private business are in undeveloped coal lands, and he is director of the Union National Bank of Connellsville.
"He married, October 11, 1895, Sarah Elizabeth Pollins, born in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, July 30, 1871, daughter of Jesse Pollins, a farmer and native of Westmoreland County. They had one child: Jesse Pollins Franks, born April 29, 1897."

[51474] "Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine], 28 Decembe 2013": "Houlton - John Everett Gray, 68 passed away peacefully at his home on December 27, 2013. He was born September 10, 1945 in Castine, the sixth of 6 children to Earl Warren and Erma Bell (Nevells) Gray. John's wonderful smile, sparkling blue eyes and sense of humor won the hearts of the many people who worked with him and encountered him in the community. John lived at Forest Springs Group Home for 17 years. He spent the last 6 months of his life at Harmony Nursing Home. He loved to tease and be teased by the people who worked with him. The loving care provided by these individuals brightened each of his days. John was loved by many and will be sorely missed. John spent the majority of his younger years in Down East Maine. For many years his brother, Gaylen, organized a family reunion and cook-out at Lamoine Beach. John would spend a night or two in the Ellsworth area. Each year, more family members gathered to see Johnnie. John looked forward to and talked about his vacation all throughout the year. He loved music of any kind, spending time outdoors, cooking burgers on the grill, Chinese takeout, coffee and cruising in his motorized wheelchair. Visits with friends and family members meant the world to John. In addition to his vacation, John's favorite occasions were his birthday and Christmas. Although John became seriously ill and doctors did not expect him to survive the summer of 2012, John wasn't ready to go until he had celebrated two more birthdays and Christmases. Until his health began to fail, John regularly attended the Houlton Wesleyan Church. He especially enjoyed the musical portion of the service. He is survived by his brothers, Gaylen Gray of Bucksport, Durwood Gray of East Machias, David Gray of Andover, NY and his twin sister, Joan Gomm of Bangor; as well as many niece nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his parents and brother, Earl Gray."
