[7510] "The Perry County Democrat, 27 Nov 1912," p. 3: "Daniel Briner, the well-known insurance agent of this place, died at his home here Thursday evening of last week about half past five o'clock. His death was very sudden and was a terrible shock to the whole community, for but few knew that he had been ill. He was out about town as usual on Monday and Tuesday. On Wednesday be was seized with cramp in the stomach which continued to grow worse in spite of the efforts of his physician, Dr. Moore. On Thursday morning Dr. Orris, of Newport, was called in consultation, but even then Mr. Briner's condition was not regarded as dangerous. During the day the cramp affected his heart, producing acute neuralgia, which was the cause of his death. The sad news of his sudden demise was received with sincere sorrow all over the county, for he was widely known. Daniel Briner was a son of George and Mary Magdalena (Seager) Briner, and was born at Mount Pleasant, Jackson township, May 31, 1847, He was therefore aged bo years, a months and 20 days at the time of his death. His greatgrandfather, a German by birth, settled in Pennsylvania before the Revolutionary war, and enlisted in the Continental army, serving under General Washington. Jacob Briner, grandfather of the deceased, came to this county from Berks and settled near Loysville in 1806. In 1809 he and his brother George bought a tract of 226 acres in Jackson township. He died in 1842. The subject of this sketch worked on his father's farm when a boy and when a young man taught school for ten years. He and Miss Sarah Elizabeth Parsons, of Nossville, Huntingdon county, were married October 12, 1875. In the spring of 1876 they moved to Shade Valley, Huntingdon county, Pa., where they resided for ten years, in 1886 they returned to this county and Mr. Briner engaged in the insurance business with his brother, George S., locating in Newport. In 1890 he took up his residence here, continuing in the insurance business up until the time ofhbis death. He was well-known all over the county and had hosts of warm friends everywhere, being a man of genial, friendly disposition and pleasant manners. At an early age he connected himself with the Lutheran church and was a consistent member up until the time of his death. In political faith he was a staunch Democrat, taking a lively interest in the success of his party. He was a man of intelligence and good judgment and stood high in the estimation of his fellow men. By his death our town loses one of its best citizens. Mr. Briner is survived by his wife and one son, Ira G., of Oklahoma City Okla. Two children died in infancy and one daughter, Dora, (Mrs. A. J. Rudisill) died in February, 1904. The following brothers and sisters are living Mrs. Sarah A. Miller, Mrs. Magdalena Eby and John H. Briner, of near Blain this county; George S. Briner, Esq., of Carlisle, former Register and Recorder of this county; and Mrs. Hannah M. Brown, of near Newville, Cumberland county. One brother, Jacob, and one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Foust, are dead. The funeral was held this afternoon at 2 o'clock, the services being conducted at the house by Rev. W. J. Wagner, and interment was made in the Bloomfield cemetery. The pallbearers were all relatives of the deceased, namely: His son, Ira G. Briner, Rev A. J. Rudisill, George and Frank Briner, Edward Beers and W. K. Clouser."

The 16 April 1940 federal cansus lists John's household at 705 Liberty St., Shamokin, Northumberland Co., PA - John, age 38, is pressman for a newspaper, with wife Helen B.., age 32, son Vincent (23, truck driver for a lumber co.), daughter Mae Bowen (30, married), grandson Charles Bowen (7) and aunt Eva Caspar (71, along with two roomers.
In 1948 John and Helen r. 205 Commerce St., Shamokin - and are also there in 1930; in 1934 and 1936 they r. 705 Liberty St. according to the Shamokin city directory; in 1950 they r. 205 E. Commerce St. again with John J., a student, and were there in 1957. The 1950 and 1957 directories state this is the address of Penn Cafe. Wife Helen B. Dutcavich (1907-1983) is buried with John as are Albert and Edwin (no dates given for either). Buried with John is wife Helen B. (1907-1983).
"Shamokin News-Dispatch, 2 Nov 1963," p. 2: "John Dutcavich. 62, of 205 East Commerce Street, died at 1:35 yesterday afternoon in Shamokin State General Hospital where he had been a medical patient since Tuesday. He had been in failing health several years. Born in Shamokin, May 1, 1901, Mr. Dutcavich was a son of the late John and Agnes (Cooper) Dutcavich. Mr. Dutcavich had been employed by the News-Dispatch for many years as a pressroom foreman. Later, he owned and operated the Penn Cafe, located on East Commerce Street. The late local resident was married July 31, 1926 in Shamokin to the former Miss Helen B. Yasalonis. He was a member of St. Michael's Church, Holy Name Society, Shamokin Lodges of Moose and Eagles and the Lithuanian Club. Survivors include the widow, two sons, John J., Minersville, and Robert J.. Shamokin; six grandchildren and two brothers, Bernard Dutt, Arlington. Va., and Vincent Dutcavich, Bristol."
"Pottsville Republican [Pottsville, Pennsylvania], 2 November 1963," p. 14: "John A. Dutcavich of 205 E. Commerce St., Shamokin, father of John J. Dutcavich, funeral director of Minersville, and who has other relatives in the Minersville and Pottsville area, died Friday afternoon in Shamokin State Hospital after a lengthy illness. Mr. Dutcavich, a Shamokin native, was a son of the late John and Agnes Casper Dutcavich. He had been a pressman for the Shamokin News Dispatch until 1941 when he took over the operation of Penn Cafe in Shamokin, which was formerly operated by his parents. He was a member of St. Michael's Church and Holy Name Society, the Moose, Eagles and Elks lodges, and the Lithuanian Club of Shamokin. Surviving are his wife, the former Helen Yaselonis: two sons, John J. of Minersville, and Robert J, of New York City; two brothers, Capt. Bernard with the Capital Airlines in Arlington, Va. and Vincent, of Bristol; also six grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral wll be held Tuesday morning from Campton Funeral Home, Sunbury St, Shamokin. Mass will be celebrated in St. Michael's Church. Interment will be in the parish cemetery."
