3. Johannes Peter KLOPP I. Born ca 1695 in Bingen, Am/Rhein, Germany. Johannes Peter died in Lancaster Co., PA, on 11 Sep 1753; he was 58. Also referred to simply as John Peter Klopp I in some references.
The below information received in November 2002 from Mary Lou (Clopp) Bobbit:
A tailor of Horn, commune of Simmern in the Palatinate named as Glopp/Klob/Klopp, Ulrich Simmendinger and his wife had been among the Palatines coming to New York in 1710. He returned to Germany in the year 1717 and published a small pamphlet that described the emigration of the Palatines. That source lists Peter as Klob and as Glopp as well as his marriage to the widow Magdalena Lutz on 12 Sept. 1711, Scmidsdorf. Also stated was the family size. It stated at the time he had two children in 1710.
From: Anniversary History of Lehigh County, Vol. II, Copyright 1914. The Klopp family is one of the old and prominent ones of Berks and Lebanon Counties, PA, and some of the members of this family located in 1906, a castle, that still stands, known as Schloss Klopp. In 1702 a number of Palintines left Germany and through the invitation of Queen Ann came to London. Some of these families came to New York in 1710 and owing to the oppression of Governor Hunter came to Pennsylvania in 1723, locating in the Tulpehocken creek area. Among their numbers was John Peter Glopp, the progenitor of the Klob, Klopp and Klupp family. From the records of the Rev. Kochertahl we have the following: Married Sept. 12, 1711, John Peter Glopp, a tailor of Horn county of Simmern, in Palatinate and Anna Magdalena, widow of the late John Christopher Lutzen of Klingen, a minister in the Palatinate.
1. Peter Klopp, (or Glopp) was Reformed member of the Tulpehocken Church in 1735. Later, he with Rev. Peter Miller Godfried Fidler, Conrad Weiser, and others, joined a church at Ephreta, Lancaster county, Pa., and at the home of Mr. Fidler, who had first taken up land in Tulpehocken township, burned the Psalms, catechism, and other good books. Before the house of the Tulpehocken brethren (German Seventh Day Baptists) was finished. Conrad Weiser, Hans Michael Miller, Peter Klopf, Godfried Fidler, and several single men and women went to the settlement in Ephrata. Of these, Weister, Miller and Klopf later withdrew from the Ephrata settlement, but not so the daughter of Peter Klopf, who remained steadfast. Her monastic name was "Thecla" and is so listed on the roster of the Sisterhood. She died Oct. 6, 1748, probably at Ephrata. Peter Klopp died in 1753. (See Sachse's "German Sectarians of Pennsylvania, 1708-1742).
Werrina Catherine had one daughter by first husband and four by second husband before she married Peter Klopp she brought five daughters from other spouses to this marriage. Information from: The descendants of John Jackson Woodward (1812-1875) and Hannah Mattson Woodward (1816-1894). Authors Ostrom, Laurence E. (Laurence Edward), 1964- (Main Author).
On 12 Sep 1711 when Johannes Peter was 16, he married Anna Magdalene LUTZ. Born ca 1690 in Germany. Anna Magdalene died in Lancaster Co., PA, ca 1766; she was 76.
She was widow of Johann Christoph Lutz, of Klingen Minister in the Palatinate :Ulrich Simmendinger and his wife had been among the Palatines coming to New York in 1710.
