Vera moved to Maine and attended Stockton Springs High School, and soon met Richard 'Eddie' Dyer. After marrying in 1949, together they operated the Sail Inn Restaurant in Prospect and began a family that includes: Constance and her husband, Steve Sisson, in Ellsworth, Richard and his wife, Mary, in Winthrop, Brad and his wife, Shelly, in Bangor, Christine and her husband, Chris Gray, in Port Orange, FL, Paul and his wife, Sheri, in Prospect, and Robert and his wife, Luanne, in Surry. Vera was dedicated to the Prospect Historical Society and worked extensively to document grave records for area cemeteries. She was also an active member of the Sandy Point Congregational Church.
