[38928] Hannah is daughter of Edith Dorney [Bligh] and William Harris of England, Rowley Mass. and Middletown, CT. Ancestry.com offers: "Harris Name Meaning - English and Welsh (very common in southern England and South Wales): patronymic from the medieval English personal name Harry, pet form of Henry. This name is also well established in Ireland, taken there principally during the Plantation of Ulster. In some cases, particularly in families coming from County Mayo, both Harris and Harrison can be Anglicized forms of Gaelic Ó hEarchadha."

This line is from "Descendants of John Knell Niles" at http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/s/c/h/Michael-S-Schrage in 2012 and is not verified. This file offers:
John Niles is generally accepted as the original progenitor of all families by the Niles name in North America. John initially settled in Dorchester, MA around 1634 and then in 1636 moved to Braintree, MA. He was known in Braintree, MA as Old John Niles.
"John was evidently of humble extraction as appears by his title of "Goodman" and his wife as being addressed as "Goody" Niles. In colonial times the title of Mister was strictly reserved for persons of education and condition and the line between Mister and Goodman was strongly marked. His son, Nathaniel gave the family a start on the upward road by his marraige with Sarah Sands, the daughter of James Sands of RI. James Sands was a man of extensive landed property, the major part of which seems to have descended to his daughter as Nathaniel was evidently prosperous and able to give his son Samuel a liberal education. From this time on the Niles appear to have been able in each generation to give educations to their sons. Nathaniel and Sarah had a Rev. Samuel Niles "

Jeffrey Niles posted in "Niles Family Genealogy Forum" in http://genforum.genealogy.com 7 July 2012: "'Niles' may have an older connection to 'Knell' in Old English, but there does seem to be a bit of confusion regarding the John who immigrated to Massachusetts in the first place. There was a certain John Knill who immigrated from Wales and came on board the ship, 'Speedwell.' But our John Nile/Niles/Nyle most likely arrived from Dorset-shire (probably Beaminster). There was a large group of emigrants who left this area of England around the same time because of the economy and the failing reign of King Charles. And they moved to Dorchester. John Niles' children bear a great similarity in their names to the Nile/Nyle families of Beaminster, Dorset, particularly the family of John Nyle and Johane Paviot who did have a son named John born about the same time as ours who settled in Braintree."
