Both Gertrude and her mother, Itta, entered this monastery, with Gertrude succeeding her mother as abbess in 652. Gertrude resigned as abbess in 656 and spent the rest of her life studying Scripture and doing penances. She was gifted with visions.

He married Grace Wells on May 5, 1631, in Shelton, Bedfordshire. They had seven [known] children during their marriage. He died on May 16, 1648, in Guilford, Connecticut, at the age of 38. Grace Wells was born in 1611 in Shelton, Bedfordshire . . . . She died on August 7, 1648, in Guilford, Connecticut, at the age of 37." A posting by Darlene C. Joyce, CGRS, 13 Jan 2005 seen at http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/NORTON offers: " Thomas Norton of Guilford was. . . likely the son of Robert Norton, and was baptised on 10 Oct. 1608. There is general agreement that Thomas Norton married Grace Wells 5 May 1631, at Shelton, County of Bedford, England, and that they arrived in Guilford CT about 1639."
