[20303] Albert was an ordained minister. He "restored" the "e" to the surname through his interest in genealogy. He was an Episcopal priest and served in Chicago (1900-05), Wilmette (1905-07) and in Momence, Morrison, Dixon and Grand Detour. He was a Democrat and belonged to the Elks lodge. He was active in the Boy Scouts of America, and received the Silver Beaver award. After his wife died, he married his housekeeper, Minnie Davies. Find A Grave memorial 104140626 offers: " An Episcopal priest, Father Whitcombe was an active priest until his death, but served more as a circuit rider after leaving St. Luke's in Dixon in about 1914, serving parishes in several nearby towns. He was most publically associated with St. Peter's in Grand Detour, Illinois where he spearheaded a completed renovation of the very old chapel (the second oldest Episcopal church in Illinois) with the son of Leonard Andrus, John Deere's partner. He is buried in the church lawn. He also did public relations for a local utility, sold life insurance, sat on the City council, and was Regional Counsel for the Lincoln Highway Association, State Chaplain for the Elks, a serious Mason, and very active on Civil Defense during WWI."
