See "Medieval English Ancestors of Certain Americans," Carl Boyer III (Santa Clarita, CA, 2001), p. 80. https://familysearch.org/photos/artifacts/20553497 provides ancestry and offers: " notes on Ralph (The Timid) de Sudeley. · 13 November 2015 · Ralph, described by contemporaries as 'Comes' [Earl], possibly a courtier of comital rank but without a territorial earldom, at any rate in England, for he was French, to support the dignity, but also possibly Earl of Worcester or conceivably Hereford (he was employed at a high level against a Welsh incursion into England and revolts by various earls throughout the 1050s, though on one occasion he and his soldiers ran away before fighting even began); and/or even the East Midlands; held Sudeley and Toddington, Glos, and Chilvers Cotton, Warwicks; married Getha, and died 21 Dec 1057. [Burke's Peerage] Note: The Plantagenet Ancestry calls him Earl of Hereford."

[38652] Roland's obituary 17 Feb 1970 in "The Transcript", p. 16, reports that he r. Pownal, VT and was wintering in Zephrhills, Florida, and was retired superintendent of the Northern Berkshire School Union. He graduated from Bangor (ME) High School and Fitchburg State Teachers College. He attained his MA degree in education from the University of NH and took adanced administrative study at Harvard University. His career included teaching high school mathenatics, serving as school principal, assistant Boy Scout executive in the North Bergen (NJ) Council, superintendent in various locations and in 1955 was appointed director of special services in the Stratford (CT) School Department. He remained active in the Boy Scouts and in the American Red Cross, and attended First United Methodist Church in North Adams, MA. In addition to his son, Roland, Jr., he was survived by two daughters: Mrs. Richard Pugliese of North Adams (MA) and Mrs. Carol Carter of Lamoni, IA, and several step-children. The obituary states he will be buried in the Castine, ME cemetery's family lot.
