[45310] Ralph's second wife was Aileen Grisham (1915-2001). "The Daily Item [Sunbury, PA], 31 August 1981," p. 1: "Ralph Witmer, chairman of the board and chief executive officer of the Snyder County Trust Co., is dead at 89. Mr. Witmer, whose banking career spanned 61 years, died at 7 p.m. Sunday in the Doctors Convalescent Center, Selinsgrove. His home was at 410 Picnic Lane, Hummels Wharf. Mr. Witmer, a leader in the business and industrial life of the community, was active in various service, fraternal, professional and charitable organizations in the valley. He began bis banking career after three years as a teacher and principal in the former Allenwood schools and a 3-year stint in the U.S. Army. Serving in World War I, Mr. Witmer was cited for his service with the French Army. Mr. Witmer was one of a group of students at Susquehanna University who, outraged by the German occupation of France in World War I, formed the U. S. Army Ambulance Corps, which later rescued thousands of wounded soldiers from the battle front. - He became cashier of the National Bank in Allenwood in 1920 and held the position until 1925 when he organized the Snyder County Trust Co. in Selinsgrove. Mr. Witmer was the bank's treasurer until 1946 and its executive vice president from 1946 to 1952. He then served as president, chairman of the board and chief executive officer until 1970.
