THOMAS BAYES married on December 26, 1639, ANNE BAKER, at Dedham, Mass. He was born in 1615 in Yorkshire, England, and died in 1680 in Edgartown, Martha's Vineyard. His political offices were hog reeve, constable, and leader of the train band. In 1676 he was chosen selectman. He was also known as Captain. (
He lived on one of the ten-acre lots known as the "five and twenty," which had its southern boundary on Main street, and extended as far back as Pease Point way. NEHGS: (1899, vol. 53, p. 130) Thomas came to the Vineyard before 1653. In his will, he names his wife Ann, and mentions that his daughter Mary, is now the wife of Joseph Norton. His other daughter Ruth married Issac Norton, so the ties with the Norton Family are strong. His son Thomas died without children, ending the male line of descent. He also appears in Pioneers of Massachusetts. Bayes Neck on the Vineyard is named for him, it's on the eastern shore of Great Herring Pond.
THOMAS BAYES. This sturdy yeoman was the Miles Standish of the Vineyard, the martial leader of the little settlement of Great Harbor. He first appeared in this country in1636, when he signed the town Covenant at Dedham, Mass., and became a selectman in 1638. At that time he was probably a bachelor, as on Dec. 26, 1639, he married Anne Baker. She sued Robert Pease in 1659 to adjust differences due on a real estate transaction. (Edgartown Records, I, 133.)Will dated October 27, proved Nov. 29, 1660. An Elizabeth Ayre witnessed the will of Robert Pearce of Dorchester, Mass., in1664. Annals of Edgartown. Whether this was his first location in New England is not known, as he may have been of the party who removed from Watertown to Dedham.* Some clue to his English home is found in the following record : - Thomas Bayes of Dedham, carpenter, appoints Isaac Martin of Hingham his attorney to demand of the executors of - Wiseman of Barrow Aptonin County of Norfolk his grandfather, deceased, the legacy due to him by will. (1646) There is a registered pedigree of a Bayes family of Yorkshire, 1600-1767, and there are scattered references to persons of the name of Base, Baze, and Bayes in Norfolk County, from 1572 to 1700.
Thomas Bayes was born in 1615, and had just reached his majority when he emigrated. As appears by the above quoted record, he was a carpenter by trade, possibly a ship carpenter. In 1648, he resided in Boston, and from the following record it would appear that this supposition regarding his trade and relations with shipping, may be well founded : -Thomas Bayes of Boston, carpenter, constituted Joseph Wilson of Boston his attorney to ask of all persons in Barbadoes, Christophers and any of the Carribbee Ids. Monies due him.* When Thomas Bayes removed to the Vineyard is not accurately known, but he was a proprietor at Great Harbor as early as 1652, for in that same year he was chosen hog reeve for the town. In 1655 he was made a constable, and in 1656 was chosen leader of the train band. This office he filled in 1661, 1662 and 1663. These are all the recorded instances of his military leadership, but as no other person was chosen to this position in subquent years, it is probable that he continued to hold it. In 1676 he was chosen selectman, the last office filled by him prior to his death.
He was convicted in 1643 of "mutinos & turbulent speaches," and bound over.

Snyder, one of the most beloved personalities of New Bloomfield, entered into rest, April 27, 1939, at her home on East McClure street. Mrs. Snyder suffered a severe heart attack the previous Saturday and although she fought a good fight, gradually grew weaker until her weary eyes closed peacefully in death. She was the daughter of Abraham and Mary (Dunkleberger) Bower, and was born near Warm Springs, February 17, 1856, being at the time of her death aged 83 years, 2 months and 11 days. She was married to Samuel Snyder, February, 1877, who died November 6, 1917. Survivinh are a son. David A. Snyder, of Chevy Chase, Md., and three grandchildren, Mrs. Helen Hiltner, Enola; Mrs. Ruth Wagner, Carlisle, and Mr. Charles Nickel, Pittsburgh, also a great-granddaughter, Judith Ann Hiltner. Mrs. Snyder was a consistent and active member of the New Bloomfield Lutheran church, Sunday School, Aid Society, Christian Endeavor, W. C. T. U. and a life member of the Missionary Society. She was 'ardent and trustful in her faith, loyal in devotion to her Lord and His church, Christian to the depths of her heart and soul,' her presence will be sadly missed."

[7079] Edward was baptised at Foston/Long Bennington, Lincolnshire. He is listed in his father's will of 1591. He and Jane had Richard (1606), Mary (1607), Jane (1609), Edward (1611), John (1614), Ellin (1616), Henry (1619), Luke (1620), Elizabeth (1622, bur. 1623), and Bartholomew (1624). His death date is questionable and is from the unverified OneWorldTree in Ancestry.com in 2011. See "British Roots of Maryland Families," Robert W. Barnes (Baltimore, MD: Genealogical Publishing, 1999), p. 261 which states "Edward Isaac, son of Richard (1) and Alice, was bapt. 22 Nov 1595 at Long Bennington, and was a boy of six at his father's death. He m. Jane Cheyney at Fulbeck, Lincs., on 6 May 1805. Nothing else is known of Jane except her name, but she was probably connected with the Boston family of which Christopher Cheyney of nearby Grantham, who d. testate in 1620, was a member. Edward and Jane were the parents of: Richard, bapt. 23 Feb 1606; Henry, bapt. 4 April 1619; and Elizabet, bapt. 27 Feb 1622."
