[52586] "Bangor Daily News [Bangor,Maine]," 10 December 222: "Stetson - Ronald Clifton Miles Sr., 81, 'The Good Looking One' of Stetson died at his home on November 22, 2022, from complications caused by Parkinson's Disease while holding the hand of his devoted wife and caregiver, Donna. In the weeks and days leading up to his death Ron was surrounded by the love of his wife, children, grandchildren, and extended family. He was born in Hudson on April 29, 1941, to Clifton, Jr., and Rebecca (Strout) Miles. He was proud to say that he was the oldest grandchild of his maternal grandparents, Leigh and Stella Strout. Ron came from a loving and close-knit extended family, growing up in a home that included his parents, siblings, paternal grandparents (Clifton Sr. and Gertrude Miles) and an uncle (Walter D.). Ron attended Hudson schools where he was taught by his aunts. He graduated from Bangor High School in 1959. During high school Ron took an after school job at Columbia Market and began a 40-year career in the grocery business moving from Columbia Market to Doug's Shop N' Save on Broadway until his retirement in 1998. Ron was known to be a hard-working and dedicated employee. His co-workers nicknamed him 'The Farmer' and 'The Singer.' After work in the store, he would come home to his second job helping his father and mother-in-law (Ralph and Doris Darling), work their small family farm raising and selling peas, corn, potatoes, pumpkins, and hay. In 1998, Ron enjoyed a second career helping his brother, Darrell, with Darrell's Miles Surveying business. Ron enjoyed many hours outside with his brother, having lunch together and getting into all kinds of funny situations. Despite working long hours Ron never missed the opportunity to be a part of his children's lives and activities, traveling to Corinth and other schools to watch his children play sports or participate in music and theater activities. When grandchildren started arriving Grampa Miles was an active grandparent, often called upon to provide babysitting duties, after school pickups and 'Grampa Camp.' It was not uncommon for he and Nana Miles to travel from Bangor to Dover to Pittsfield in a single day to watch his grandchildren participate in their activities. Ron enjoyed living on his family farm in Stetson, driving his old 'John' Deere tractors (he was proud to tell people he had three), cutting wood, hay and tinkering around his farm. His trademark John Deere suspenders made him recognizable wherever he went. He enjoyed the outdoors and memorable moose and deer hunting trips with his son, grandsons, granddaughters, brother, and nephews. Ron and Donna enjoyed many trips throughout the U.S. visiting his son and family while Ron Jr. was in veterinarian school in Missouri; Sonya in the Washington, D.C. area and a special 2 week visit to the Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, and other parts of the country when Donna retired in 2009. He took his first and only cruise with Lisa and Stuart, and Stu's parents, in 2016. The yearly family camping trip to Sebago Lake State Park with children and grandchildren in tow was a special time and he had all the necessary tools to construct elaborate tarps to keep us all dry during the inevitable downpours. Ron's greatest joy and achievement was his family and he kept us entertained with stories, rhymes, and singing. Ron is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Donna; and children, Lisa (Stuart) Bullard, Sonya Miles, Dr. Ron Jr. (Dr. Justina) Miles, and Michelle (Christopher) Carr. He was the proud grandfather of 11 grandchildren, Daniel (Jordan) Bullard, Paige (Kyle) Martin, Monica (Alex) Stevens, Timothy (Kristen) Bullard, Jacquelyn Miles, Mikayla Carr, Andrew (Mild) Miles, Matthew Bullard, Christa Carr; Anna and Addison Miles. Ron had 4 great-grandchildren, Brynn and Cecily Martin, Lex and Ruth Stevens, and he was happy to hear that Tim and Kristen were expecting his 5th great-grandchild, Lyla-Grace, in March. Ron is also survived by the siblings he loved dearly, Darlene Miles, Brenda (Ray) Willette, Darrell (Lori) Miles, Sylvia Crosman, Sheila (Kevin) Wasson; as well as two sisters-in-laws, Mona (Roland) Booker and Sonya Fagan. Ron is survived by his maternal aunt, Joyce Mailman. Ron enjoyed a wonderful relationship with Jeffers Ashley, a long-time neighbor who became a much-loved bonus son. He was a beloved 'Uncle Ronnie' to his nieces and nephews and had many cousins by birth and marriage who he loved dearly. Thanks go to his neighbors and friends who helped him regularly with house and farm duties including Maynard Hawes, Mickey Cleaves and Jeff Young. Special thanks to his hospice team from Northern Light, Beka, David, Donna and Nicole who supported Ron and Donna during the last few months."
