"The Ellsworth American [Ellsworth, Maine]," 20 December 2023: "Marshall C. Eaton, 73, of Spring Hill, Fla., and Northeast Harbor, died peacefully and without pain at home on Thursday, Dec. 14, 2023, holding the hand of his loving wife, Joanne Robbins Eaton, after a six-month battle with incurable brain cancer (grade 4 glioblastoma). Marshall was born on Sept. 16, 1950, the second child of Hollis and Wilma Clark Eaton. He was predeceased by his parents and his older brother, Lawrie Eaton. He is survived by his younger brother, Rob Eaton, sisters-in-law Cindy Eaton and Rebecca Eaton, and four nieces, Jill Potts, Kris Eaton, Jennifer Sievers, and Hillary Eaton. He is also survived by eight great nieces and nephews, Quinn, Cash, Brady, and Millie Anderson, Finley Eaton, and Austin, Jules, and Niles Sievers. He is also survived by his stepdaughters; Tracy Hetzer, Jennifer Feltwell, and Penelope Redmon; their husbands, Rob Hetzer, David Feltwell, and Ty Redmon; and their children, Stefanie, Juliet, and Sofia Feltwell, Basil Mahaney, Nigel Storer, and Duncan Hetzer, Sara and Alexandra Heiges, Basils wife, Lesley Mahaney, and their children, Marshalls step-great-grandchildren, Hadley, Jack, and William Mahaney. Marshall grew up and spent most of his life in his Northeast Harbor family home. In 2020, he and Joanne sold the family home to pursue his dream of living in Florida. In their 25 years together, he and Joanne had many adventures. Marshall had a passion for cribbage, jigsaw, and crossword puzzles, watching football, gardening, and using his skills as a carpenter. His great love was traveling to new and exciting places. To celebrate his 73rd birthday and the end of his chemotherapy/radiation treatment, they visited Rapid City, N.D. to visit Mt. Rushmore, the Crazy Horse Memorial, Mt. Moriah Cemetery in Deadwood, N.D., and Custer State Parks annual buffalo round-up of 1,400 buffalo, the culmination of his dream trips. They started with road trips up and down the East and West coasts of America. Their next trip to the United Kingdom highlighted visits to Ireland to explore three of the 'Butler' Castles belonging to his ancestors, and the West Coast of England to visit the site of their favorite show, 'Doc Martin'. They also took annual trips to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. Their large boat cruises included Alaska and through the Panama Canal, followed by multiple transatlantic and Mediterranean cruises where they toured Venice, Greece, Rome, Barcelona, Pisa, the Rock of Gibraltar, and many other sites. They cruised around Cape Horn and the glaciers of Chile. River cruises took them up the Rhine, Mississippi, and Ohio Rivers. They also cruised the five Great Lakes. Other cruise ports included stops in Portugal, Spain, Omaha Beach in France, Great Britain, and Copenhagen. While on a cruise to the Norwegian Fjords, they went above the Arctic Circle for the summer solstice. On a separate trip, they crossed the International Date Line and experienced one of Marshalls favorite stops, Bora Bora. Marshalls friends describe him as kind and gentle with a wonderful sense of humor. His new friends in the community of Timber Pines remember him most for his passion for the treadmill at the gym, where he always set new and higher goals for himself. Joanne uses the following version of Romans 8 to comfort herself during this difficult time: 'When you move on from this life to the next, my presence will shine brighter with each step. You have nothing to fear for I am with you for all time and throughout eternity.'"
No funeral is planned. Marshall will be cremated, and his ashes placed in the Clark-Eaton family plot at Bayview Cemetery in Franklin.
