Joseph served in the Union Army (Private, Ohio Volunteer Cavalry) during the War Between the States. The 1860 an 1870 federal censuses list him and Rachel and family in Weller Twp., Richland Co., OH; they are in Christian Co., MO in the 1900 and 1910 federal censuses. Joseph received a pension for his service in an Ohio regiment during the War Between the States. Joseph's obituary is in "The Springfield News-Leader [Springfield, Missouri], 30 January 1926," p. 10.

[16568] Sarah m. 25 Oct 1675 at Lynn, MA to William Bassett (b. ca. 1657 to William Bassett and Sarah Burt). Sarah Hood was tried for witchcraft 23 May 1692 and imprisoned in Boston until 2 Nov 1692. Her 22 month old child was with her in the prison; another child was born after she was released, and she named her "Deliverance." Her husband's sister Elizabeth m. John Proctor of Danvers, MA and was also accused and sentenced to death (but released through persistent efforts of her husband who was later himself executed).
