[1251] His siblings are supplied by Marston Watson (a descendant), see under his father. Pierce's Colonial Lists (p. 5) lists him as Marshal at Sandwich, MA from June, 1698 to 1692 and (p. 14) as a Selectman, 1689-90. It is interesting that the NEGHR Oct 1849, p. 352, lists William Bassett, Sr. and William Bassett, Jr. as Freemen in Lynn, MA 18 April 1691. Find A Grave memorial 37614226 offers: "Grandson of Captain William Bassett of Plymouth, Massachusetts, who arrived on the Fortune in 1621. Who was the gunsmith of Plymouth and whos sword can still be seen at the Pilgrim's Memorial Hall. His father was Deacon William Bassett and his mother was Mary (Raynesford) Bassett. Colonel William Bassett - was Marshall of Plymouth Colony at the time of the Union with Mass. and a judge of the Inferior Court in 1710. He was an excellent penman, and wrote in a very small, yet distinct and beautiful hand. Third successive William Bassett of this line was the 'Hon. Judge' William Bassett of Sandwich, Barnstable, Massachusetts. Being but fourteen years of age when his father died, guardianship was granted to Mr. Hinckley, later Governor of the Colony. William Bassett attained considerable distinction in the colony. In addition to serving as a captain in the militia and member of the war council in 1689, he became a judge of the superior court of Massachusetts from 1710-1715, also serving as chief marshall of Plymouth colony from 1689-1692. He was stated to be 'the most distinguished of any of the name in Massachusetts.'"

[2061] http://www.art-science.com/Ken/Genealogy/PD/ch48_Gascony.html offers: "Loup died in 774 & the duchy devolved onto Loup II. He did not last long. He was either killed by Charlemagne in 778 or locked up then & only killed thirteen years later. Either way, it was a poor lookout for Loup but not surprising, in view of what he had done to Charlemagne, which we will examine below. Loup had married Numabela of Cantabria in about 770, bringing more Visigoth blood into the Delaforce line. She was the daughter of Fruela of Cantabria, (?705 - ?765), who's son Roderic is also a Delaforce."
