[37867] This person is from the unverified Smolka Family Tree in Ancestry.com in 2014. Ancestry.com offers: "Butler Name Meaning - English and Irish: from a word that originally denoted a wine steward, usually the chief servant of a medieval household, from Norman French butuiller (Old French bouteillier, Latin buticularius, from buticula 'bottle'). In the large households of royalty and the most powerful nobility, the title came to denote an officer of high rank and responsibility, only nominally concerned with the supply of wine, if at all. Anglicized form of French Boutilier."

Waleran's half-brother, William de Lancaster II, d. 1184, was 6th Baron Kendal and m. Hawise de Stuteville, dau.of Robert of Lazenby, co. Cumberland, and wife Hawise (niece of Geoffrey Mordac; she m. 2nd William de Greystoke). {"Ancestral Roots..." (Balt., 1992) 88-26. Homer James 2003 web site (http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~pmcbride/james/f038.htm#I1415X2) reports: Waleran de Newburgh, 4th Earl of Warwick. This nobleman, Dugdale says, "had much ado a great part of his time touching his inheritance; there starting up one who feigned himself to be his brother, Earl William, deceased in the Holy Land, which occasioned him no little trouble and vexation; so it is thought by some, that the grant which he made to Hubert, Archbishop of Canterbury, then chancellor of England, of the advowson of all the prebendaries belonging to the collegiate church, in Warwick, to hold during his life, was to purchase his favor in that weighty matter." He married (1) Margery Bohun, daughter of Humphrey de Bohun, Earl of Hereford. He married (2) Alice Harcourt, daughter of John(?) de Harcourt, and widow of John de Limesi. They had an only daughter, Alice. The Earl was succeeded by his eldest son, Henry.

Throughout his life, Dana enjoyed spending time golfing, gardening, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing and fishing. He could often be found working with his hands on everything from miniature boat building to house renovations. He was a fan of old-time rock and roll music and loved to dance. Dana most enjoyed time spent with family and friends at the camp on Cross Lake and tenting on Little Deer Isle. In 2005, Dana and Becky retired together to travel and become 'snowbirds' spending winters in St. Petersburg, Fla. Summers were spent at Little Deer Isle where they built a home and Dana was able to share his love of the island with his grandchildren.
