[47131] Joseph was a railroad brakeman at the time of the 1880 federal census in Harrisburg, Dauphin Co., PA and r. with Lillie and their infant daughter Mary L. Downs in Lillie's parents' home. Joseph's 1921 death certificate states he was a railroad passenger train conductor and is son of Robert Downs and Elizabeth Owens. "The Selinsgrove Times-Tribune [Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania], 14 Apr 1921," p. 1: "Joseph O. Downs, well known to many travelers on the Sunbury and Lewistown division of the Pennsylvania System where he was a passenger train conductor for many years, will be retired on pension by that Company on May 9, at the age of 67 years after 49 years of service. Mr. Downs has been a resident of Milroy for some time past and has been conductor on the Milroy branch train between Milroy and Lewistown. He entered the passenger service.on the middle division out of Harrisburg and came to the Lewistown division following the great flood of 1889. He has been in poor health recently following a protracted illness and it is on this account that he will retire."

He was born January 30, 1887 at Deer Isle, son of Silas and Sadie (Sylvester) Eaton. He is survived by his widow, Lulu, of Little Deer Isle; two sons, Earl Eaton and Milton Eaton, both of Little Deer Isle; three daughters, Mrs. Calvin Dunham of Stonington, Mrs. Lawrence Strhtton of Little Deer Isle, and Mrs. Montelle Small of Portland, He was a member of the Deer Isle Masonic Lodge and the Eastern Star. He also held an unlimited masters license for steam and sailboats."

Hutchings, died suddenly at her home on Jan 2nd at the age of 76. She was born in Steuben, daughter of Stillman and Sarah (Colson) Fickett. Surviving besides the husband are four daughters, Mrs. Bessie Merritt of Brunswick, Mrs. Georgia Ellsmore of Jacksonville, Mrs. Helen Thompson and Mrs Maud Tucker, both of Cherryfleld, and several grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the home Sunday afternoon with Rev. Herbert B Wheeler officiating. Interment was in the family lot in Pine Grove cemetery." Elizabeth is said to be daughter of Stillman C. Fickett (1838-1913).
[56335] "The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 12 August 2010: "Presque Isle - Margaret Hanks Coffin, 84, died Monday, Aug. 9, 2010, at Glenridge Nursing Home, Augusta. She was born May 18, 1926, in Augusta, daughter of the late Dana and Ethelle Libby Hanks. Margaret attended Cony High School, Fischer Business School and the University of Maine, Orono. She was a longtime member of Presque Isle Congregational Church and its choir - Caribou Choral Society, and Beta Sigma Phi. Born and brought up in Augusta, Margaret had a desire to be in radio at an early age. At UMO, she got involved in the Radio Guild Club, writing scripts, performing music, etc. Her love of radio brought her to Presque Isle, where they needed an announcer at WAGM. It was there she met her husband-to-be, Ted Coffin. Several years later when she worked for WRKD-Radio, Rockland, she and Ted were married. After only 10 years of marriage, Ted passed away leaving her to raise her two girls. She was the first librarian for Northern Maine Technical College, where she was head librarian from the late 1960s to 1996, when she retired. She was predeceased by her husband, R. Theodore Coffin, in 1964; her brother, Dana Hanks Jr.; and sister, Lois Hanks. She is survived by her two daughters, Nanci Lee (LaMarque) and her husband, Jim, and Lucinda Ann; her niece, Susan Gayne and her husband, Steve; her nephew, Dana McLean Hanks and his wife, MaryAnn; her sisters-in-law, Barbara Hews, Jackie Haines, Geraldine Wheeler and Helen King; brothers-in-law, Richard King and his wife, Irene, and Harold Quass; numerous nieces and nephews. Burial will be at Fairmont Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest beside her husband."
